I'm having a Grandview Las Vegas week transferred to me soon by LT Transfers but I understand there is a hack available that will allow me to join RCI without waiting. I know you're supposed to own a week but I have followed threads in the past that posted the process. Gonna try a few groups to see who that was. Please post or message me.

Understanding is different than 'I heard'. There used to be a Palm Springs TS that 'leased' weeks for a finite period, that was renewable, and came with an RCI membership. Members could just let the 'lease' expire and as long as the RCI membership was paid, that part continued. Same as owning a week, then selling it and keeping the RCI membership active. I haven't heard about it for several years, though. Happy hunting.

I don't see why you could not attempt to join RCI if you are in the process of having a unit transferred to you. Typically you may need all or most of the following which you probably already know from the transfer process or can quickly ascertain:
Resort name, resort ID#, Unit #, Unit size, min/max occupancy and week number or date.

Whether RCI checks for ownership now, I don't know but if they do you will need to wait until the transfer process is complete.

of course I have all that info but on the phone with a 20 year RCI person they said the only thing you can do is wait and get the deed recorded first. I have a post from 2017 that explains how to do it but the RCI website has changed since then, and I have been unable to find my thread from last month that attempted to explain how to do it. I'll just keep hacking away.

This would be different than that. It included specific instructions on how to do it without ownership. If I can't find it or get it reposted, I'll wait. We'll see.

Why the rush?

If I were RCI ... I might aim to wait for the transfer to become finalized/recorded to avoid the risk of having one gain the RCI membership and then curtail the transfer process.

If your grandview is in points you have to have the previous owner of the points resort or the developer if it is a direct buy complete their part of the rci points membership application. This is different than a weeks ownership where you can initiate it on your own.

Makes sense. We are going to do the MTA prior to the deed recording and then I'll submit as soon as that's done.

I think you're saying that if I'm already a member then there is no $98 transfer fee?

Another reason is that if it takes a few more weeks for the transfer and a couple more weeks for the points, I can't start my searches until maybe the middle of august, maybe longer, and we have been full time care providers for my mom for almost a year. She is going to assisted living at the end of next week and it would have been nice to find any last minute weekend deal just to take off for a few days and get away.

The $98 transfer fee always applies per week that you add to a points membership. New owners pay the one year fee for points membership plus the $98 transfer fee. Current owners that get a new week just pay the $98 because they already have their membership and just pay to renew when it is time. A 2 or 3 year points membership is more cost effective than the single year one, which is the one they make you get the first year.

No; my comment had no intention of referencing any fees related to timeshare closing, transfer, recording or related RCI account fees. These were not in the scope of my earlier comment.

That pretty much reflects my expectations. I'm just trying to find the join before your time unicorn.

No problem. It just sounded like when I was reading it, that you were rationalizing what RCI's approach was, and thinking that they thought they were somehow losing out on $98. If they were to let me join now or later, my thoughts would be that they were going to get whatever they have coming to them either way.

I think I have read that RCI has an alternative website where you can rent Last Call Weeks without being an RCI Member. This might be interim help for you. Maybe another Tugger can help with the name of the website...

Perhaps you could post a request on the TUG "Last Minute Rentals Wanted" thread to see if you can get a location you are interested in, while you await access to the RCI membership. :ponder:

Great minds think alike. I just got 3 nights later this month at a Wyndham resort in Myrtle Beach for $300 by doing exactly that. One bedroom ts.
