I did not get a chance to see it when I visited HH and want to get the lay of the land. I read that the Garden View units are across a road that separates it from the rest of the resort and the beach. Perhaps a map will help me to see that this is not as bad as it sounds. I also read that there is another resort next door with restaurants etc. Any-who . . . can anyone point me in the direction of a map?

I have a map that I can scan and send you. Garden units are next to The Westin. We will be there for the 3rd time this October. One trip was in one of the 4 buildings near the ocean and one stay was a garden villa. GV has two bedrooms with two queens and two garden tubs, It is a 5 -8 minute walk to the beach from GV. I love the spa, large gym that overlooks the outdoor pool and large lobby. Indoor pool was just redone last fall. There are not as many buildings as GO. There are 3 golf courses in Port Royal Plantation.

You want to pick the satellite map and zoom in to letter E at the heel of the island
BB is to the left of Westin and behind Westin are the Garden units. GV are diagonal to main site of BB. Minutes only.
address is 5 Grasslawn Ave Hilton Head SC

It isn't as bad as it sounds. The road you refer to is the driveway entrance to the Westin so the only traffic is Westin guests. The Westin has several restaurants which you can charge to your room at Barony. (The seafood buffet is really nice but pricey.) There is a gate between the last gardenview building and the restrooms at the pool that you can cut thru to get to the Westin - a kind of short cut. You can then either go thru the Westin, between it and the oceanfront buildings of Barony or then cut over to walk thru the courtyard at Barony to get to the beach. I'm not sure that it would qualify as a full city block in length-maybe 100 yds.

We love it there but aren't going until next spring. We had too many big trips planned for this year and had to deposit our unit. Right now we're kind of bummed. We know what we gave up....hope the other trips are worth it!

Barony is really nice. The walk to the beach from the garden units is not bad and we enjoy the fact that there is a nice heated outdoor pool. We own at Barony and Grande Ocean. We're glad that you had a good week. It was great to meet you. We plan to go out to Grande Ocean Sat for a few hours before heading to Saratoga Springs for a week with Mickey on Sunday. The nice part is that we got our Disney week with an AC from depositing our Barony week. Hope you can find something on HHI that meets your needs.

Thank you ladies.

PCgirl - I would love a copy of the resort map if it's not too much trouble.

I'm having a hard time picturing this. It sounds like the Westin is sandwiched between two sides of Barony Beach.

Thanks to all.

HHI Marriott resorts and others

As of Thursday night , 17th May, these resort satellite images work with the links. I think after a while they revert back to the overhead USA image, losing the zoomed-in resort. I hope not...it took a while to re-do these. Anyway, hope they help. This aerial view of SurfWatch (first image link) shows the distance of SurfWatch buildings from beach.....for those who wish to see an actual overhead shot. Also, the beachfront pool is visible...you can also click & drag on the picture to go anywhere, or zoom in or out to view anything, anywhere. jme

SurfWatch ...note distance to beach, except for one lone bldg., which is still a hike. Property is laid out around a marsh, with little dry land on which to construct the bldgs., hence the layout.

Here's the best way to picture it - both the Westin and Barony are on the beach, but the Garden units at Barony are behind the Westin. The only complaint I had was the odd truck servicing the Westin in the morning - not a big deal. Here's some tips:

To get to the beach go out the gate at the back of the pool area and go through the Westin.

Rent bikes (behind the Garden bldgs) and ride them down the path to the front of Barony when you go to the beach.

Use your Marriott room number at the Westin for the restaurants - they are first rate.

The rooms in the Garden units are beautiful. The pool area is nice too. I had no issues staying there. Sadly, as a trader or Getaway buyer you are always going to be there because the Oceanside owners get first crack at Oceanfront as they come available.

We have stayed at the Garden and Ocean side. We like the Garden much better. It is quiet, nice pool nice units and the walk to the beach is good. As was posted before, the truck noise can be loud at the Westin. If I remember right, there are two garden buildings . There is also a little putting green and real nice gardens. You will have a great time in the Garden.
