We recently returned to our first Timeshare in New Smyrna Beach. We bought at the Islander in 1986 or 1987. We had stayed there several times when it was a hotel and liked it very much. When they decided to convert to Timeshare they invited us up for a long weekend. We purchased a one bedroom 2 bath at that time. We had only stayed there once after it changed to Timeshare. We either put it up for exchange or rented. This year we decide to return and I am very glad we did.
The place looks great and very well maintained. The Staff is more than nice and were very helpful to us and others I observed asking questions. The Islander is older but is very well taken care of. I read where someone said it was a small resort. It has two towers and 7 floors, with 114 units. 6 are two bedrooms/2 bath. The rest are either one bedroom/ one bath, one bedroom/two bath, or studio’s. Most have Lanai’s facing ocean. The two bedroom/2bath units don’t have a lanai. There are two elevators that tend to be slow but steady. There is a huge pool with a big deck and two hot tubs. There is a small workout room and game room on first floor. The beach is wide and in great shape also. Cars are allowed on beach but have to be off by 6 pm.
There are activities every day. Hot dog lunches and Ice cream is offered more than once while there.
The Flagler Ave. Historic area is close by (North) on beachside. Many shops, café’s and Ice cream to choose from. The Beacon has a good breakfast at a good price. I walked to and from Flagler Ave. most days.
Over the Causeway is the Canal Street Historic area. Many shops, restaurants, and ice cream can be found. Jason’s is a nice place to eat. The New Smyrna Museum is worth a look. Donation accepted. Also, a short trip to Ponce Inlet Light House is worth while. The front desk is helpful in pointing out places of interest.
Close by is “The Garlic” “Norwoods” “Mon Delice” (great pastries) “Outback” “Oceans” and “PJ’s” all restaurants within 4 or 5 minutes. Publix Super Market is also very close .
New Smyrna Beach is a very nice, clean, well maintained beach town. It’s great for families and older adults. There is plenty to do and see in beach area and across the bridge on mainland side. Comfortable and clean, relaxing beach town. It’s North of Cocoa Beach and South of Daytona.
Again we hadn’t been to the Islander in 20 or more years. We are very happy in how they have kept up the Resort. We hope to go back soon.
