We have been looking around at Wyndham points for a while now and have not made up our minds about purchasing.

We heard a rumor that Wyndham is leaving Lake Lure and shutting down the check in building as of December 1. At one time this office also managed the Wyndham Sapphire Valley resorts. I am not certain if this is still true or not.

Also rumored is that Rumbling Bald Resort at Lake Lure will handle the check ins for the two Wyndham Resort timeshares Maple Ridge and Mountain Loft. The mfs are already a lot higher for these two timeshares managed by Wyndham.

Do you think there will still be a management team on site if they close the main office?

Anyone know anything about this rumor or own at Maple Ridge or Mountain Loft?

Thanks,
Becky

We just stayed at the Lake Lure resort over the summer. We did check in at the Wyndham building and stayed at a 'Wyndham" unit, but we did experience problems with internet connection and trying to find someone to help was difficult. Only Wyndam people can service the Wyndham units. We were told that the home owners voted to take back the ground/community building maintenance from Wyndham and now Rumbling Bald had all of the control. Unlike a normal resort we had to pay for everything - for example, if we wanted to swim in the lazy river we needed to buy a tube ($6.00 at the snack bar) and to play putt-putt was an additional fee ($5.00 pp). As far I could tell the only Wyndham people there were in the check in building and a few maintence people. We stayed in the Mountain Loft - it would not surprise me if this rumor were true - there was no 'love' between the 2 parties!

Does Wyndham have the right to close a resort? As a owner I have always preferred to stay at the older resorts to get more vacations for my points. I was under the assumption that Wyndham had to maintain the older resorts and could not raise the points needed to stay there. Closing older resorts to build more expensive ones would make my modest 317,000 points worth less.

Foxrun - VRI

How does VRI fit into this mix? I have a Foxrun unit that VRI is the management organization.

VRI is a different management company at Lake Lure. Wyndham closed the sales center a while ago. It now appears that they are turning over the whole ownership management to Rumbling Bald or the main property owners association. I was wondering if they were going to do the same with the two timeshares Wyndham manages there. The units will not close down. They are just managed by Wyndham, not owned by them.

Also the resort facilities are managed by Rumbling Bald Resort and owned by the property association not Wyndham. Fairfield sold the resort facilities when it declared bankruptcy years ago before the introduction of the points system. That's when the property owners association bought the golf course, pools, etc.
