Uber is definitely up and running, but the taxi union isn't happy about it. The governor ruled that Uber can legally operate in the state, but local authorities, pressured by the taxi union, hadn't given their blessing as of early April. We saw police stop some Uber drivers (with passengers in their cars, who had to get out) while we were there in March/April. We couldn't tell what the infractions were for getting pulled over, and the passengers didn't know either. The rules about pickup and drop off points are definitely skewed for taxis.
Uber has promised to pay any fines the drivers get for operating in Cabo, so people are willing to give it a try to earn some extra money. I hope things settle down. Most reports on using Uber in the area have been VERY positive! Taxis are ridiculously expensive in the area.
