Just got this call out of Arizona. This is the message that was left.
“Hello, This message is for (my first name). My name is Xxxxx. I am calling on behalf of RCI Travel. I am just calling about your account with us. If you can please give me a call back I would really appreciate it. My number is 800-571-4020, my direct extension is 62748.”

I did a search on the phone number, lots of complaints and found a website with the phone number where it uses RCI designation but isn’t actually RCI’s website. This is what is on the page

Pissed if RCI gave them my name and number, if not them someone who knows I have an RCI account gave my info. Hate the solicitation, will block the number.

I'm getting slammed with "travel award" calls becuz
"our records show you stayed at a Hilton recently."
Me: "Goodbye." <click>

I made the mistake of giving the front desk my cell-phone #...
"So we can send you a message and you can call us with any needs."

I get a lot of calls that when I (foolishly) answer them, start out with either, "[few seconds delay after I say Hello] Hi! Oh, sorry, can you hear me?" or "Hello, this is [insert female name} with Card Services." I've tried everything to stop the nonsense, including stringing them along, denying the call, yelling that I'm on the Do Not Call registry, and whatever else. Nothing works. I have found the best way to handle it is that I don't answer any caller that isn't listed in my Contacts list. If a business tells me they need to call me, I ask for a number they'll be calling from, so I can put them in my Contacts list. If they're not there, they go to voicemail. If it's important they'll call me back or leave a message. Not sure how much more I can do. And let's not talk about the spam emails I get at work!

ICE (International Cruise & Excursion Gallery) is the company that does cruise exchanges for all the major exchange companies (RCI, II, SFX and many others). When the call doing business as RCI Travel they are generally trying to sell you a cruise and 7 night rci package. So unlike some RCI sound alikes they are actually affiliated with RCI and that is how they got your info but they would not be calling you to talk about your RCI membership or any of your deposits or exchanges.

ICE ( International Cruise & Excursion Gallery ) is legit and has been around for quite a few years .

When we bought Mayan Palace in 2006 we were given a free membership .
We let it lapse as cruises are not (yet) a vacation choice .

tschwa2's post lists who they work with in the TS / exchange world .

I really don’t want RCI giving my info to any of their affiliates. Wonder if there is a way to opt out.

Don't answer your phone OR say your not interested when they call .

IMO - everyone from Russian hackers to the NSA already has everyone's info .
AND if you own a timeshare - every timeshare scammer has it too .

I get calls from people who claim they are with RCI and want to tell me about a travel opportunity special...only $199 for a week in Orlando. Blah Blah Blah. I always end up hanging up on them.

It could be RCI selling our info. Heck, it could be a resort selling our info. Example: You make an exchange with RCI and take vacation at XYZ resort. XYZ resort gathers your contact info and knows you are with RCI. They sell it.

Over 10 years ago I purchased a getaway for a coworker at Grand Beach Orlando, I kept my phone number on the guest cert in case there was an issue. To this day, I still get phone calls asking for that coworker on my cell phone. I'm sure Grand Beach sold the info on the guest cert.

It also could have been someone who worked there / rather than the resort itself .

I had a similar thing happen - My home phone received calls from a scammer asking for a friend who joined us for an off season- Oct 2013 / 2 suites for 1 MF Mayan Palace promo we used at their Puerto Penasco Mx resort location .
The reservation for the second suite had our home phone number .

The information WAS NOT sold by Vidanta / so it was likely an employee at the resort or someone in Vidanta central reservations,
or they were hacked.

********

In the case of RCI cruises offered by ICE as their authorized affiliate - I am sure the right to use the information
is buried in the terms and conditions legal mumbo -jumbo .

It was 7 years ago that we sent my husband's sister to Wyndham Ocean Boulevard for a week. They attended a sales presentation while they were there. I still get calls once in awhile asking for her. I know exactly how they got my number.

The do not call list has become a joke. When we get calls as soon as I figure out they are soliciting I hang up and block that number. When I see the different area codes many of these calls come from I think I'm going to start answering the phone "XYZ Investigation Agency, Fraud Division, Agent XXX speaking." That should be fun!

The other thing that has been happening a lot lately is that I've been getting calls asking for the same name. At first I didn't understand that they figured out a way around the do not call list and just said they had the wrong number but if you don't hang up fast enough they start on their spiel. I think I'm going to start saying: " Joe's right here and he really wants to talk to you about the money you owe him so he doesn't have to have his boys pay you a visit. "

How about...
"Attorney General's Office. Consumer Protection Division. How may I direct your call?"
