I am a long time Marriott weeks owner and understand the weeks system but never tried to learn the ins and outs of the club points system until just recently when I elected to use my enrolled week to add some days to my Maui oceanfront owned week. I am classified as Presidential and thought I could reserve a few days during the Presidents week at the Maui Ocean Club 13 months out. I tried doing this and there weren’t any days available until one day, all of a sudden there were days open for the days I wanted in 2026. I could only reserve 3 days with the points that my garden view was worth which got me to trying and learn about the points reservation system.

My question is, in light of the difficulty in obtaining certain days in highly sought after time periods is there a way to hold a reservation for a short period of time to rent points to have in addition to what my points ownership is to enable me to be able to reserve more days. It is my understanding that rented points cannot be banked or resold so if I were to have to rent points in advance and hope that I could get my desired days I would run the risk of having elected to use points instead of using my week and in addition I would have rented points that I would not have any use for if I could not reserve the days that I needed to back up to my reserved ocean front week..

I have searched this forum and Marriott question and answer regarding points usage and cannot find an answer. I’m hoping someone can answer this for me. Thanks

Yeah it's tricky to add over 7 days to a points reservation. The only way I have done it is if your lucky enough to wait a week past your first day of reservation then you can add the additional days of the second week you want. I guess you could also pay the 20% premium and rent those days at same time your week becomes available. The other thing you could do if with those rented points from someone else have them make the reservation for you for the additional days. And tell them you only want the points if they make the reservation. You could prepay them with the understanding if they can't make it for you they will refund you. So another words you would make the reservation for the first 7 days and when available (10months) they would attempt to rent the additional days. I am sure you could find someone willing to try that who had points to rent. Good luck

No, you'd need to have the points in the account to complete the booking. In the past (before I started to elect some weeks for points more regularly) I used to do exactly what you are suggesting - rent the points in advance to have them available when I need them. But I also live in Florida, where there are plenty of MVC resorts that I can use points at on short notice if I have expiring points.

You may want to delay electing your week for points and rent the gap points first. When you see availability for nights you can secure with your rented points, secure those nights. Then when you see night available for your remaining desired nights, place that resy on hold (they will hold for 15 mins), then quickly elect your week for points, then jump back into your held resy and finish the booking process.
