Is there a Glut of Marriott Abound Points currently available for rent on the Vacation Point Exchange website?

I noticed a lot of Marriott Abound Points for rent yet the rental price per point still seems to be hanging in there.

Any VPE posters on here? Do you find you're not vacationing as much these days and are trying to rent you points as an alternative? Are you finding the points rental market sluggish these days?

What do you do with your points if you find you are unable to rent them?

I recall just a few years ago there was a shortage of point rental listings. Times certainly change. I don't rent out points but have rented points a couple times. I think one issue with point rentals is that it is a narrower market than renting pre-made reservations. You can effectively only rent/transfer to other Abound members. Sure you can make a reservation with the points and rent those but most owners just want to transfer and be done.

1. Leisure travel market has more AirBnB or VRBO rentals for competition as people buy properties for tax shelters/business opportunities.
2. The inflationary market may have reduced income for luxury accommodations
3. Owners duped by salesman telling them buy points and rent them to offset MF’s
4. Restrictions Marriott put on owners over transferring points.
5. People who purchased RV’s during the pandemic are using them.

The shifting economic environment is why I would never buy to rent. Couple this with changing rules, or companies enforcing rules that have always been there but not actually enforced, make for a bad business model IMO. Especially when disposing of timeshare can be difficult on a good day. At least with a property rented out through VRBO or AirBnB there are tax benefits and the real property associated with the business has real value.

I've posted my MVC Trust Points for rent on VPE. I ended up renting some to an acquaintance. I've not had any success with my VPE postings in the past 5 months or so. My reason for renting is I'm spending my time in locations where there are no MVC or Westin VC/Sheraton VC timeshares, and I don't need to bank the points.
