I was looking to rent a car for a week in Fort Lauderdale. I gave a quick look in RCI and Kayak on Wednesday. I went back today and weekly rates were up about 15-20%.

Hence my question. A car rental rates similar to airfare in there's a day of the week when you get better rates?

I've never noticed a articular day, but earlier is always better. Since almost all car reservations can be cancelled w/o penalty, there really is no reason not to book as early as possible. During popular times, rental car rates can go through the roof the longer you wait, especially lately.

Put in for your car at least 6 weeks in advance, dat doesn't matter. Don't pay in advance and then go to Autoslash and put in the information and let it start searching. Given enough time something at a much better price usually will pop up and you get notified with the choice to book it or keep looking.
Friends used the in Hawaii recently as everyone were complaining about high prices. They went from a $850 rental for a week (their week ends tomorrow) to $350 for the week and let us know how happy they are. This was 3 women my wife walks with that asked her what the name of that company we like was.

Last fall when it became obvious we had to fly to Florida when the government kept extending the land border closure I checked on car rental rates daily. We were only about a month from needing it. I didn't see much difference from one day of the week to another but did notice an increase as our needed dates got closer. We needed a 22 day rental so I was getting rates between $1600 & $2200.Cndn. from all the major companies, even when going through the discount sites.

Then I tried the company recommended to me on here for our vehicle rental in the Netherlands in Sept. Cheap Car Rentals Worldwide (economybookings.com) To my surprise they had a few locations in FL (MCO, MIA, FLL) and when I plugged in our dates their rates were less than half of any other price even though I was now about 2 weeks out. I quickly booked and a couple of days latter we received an email telling us their rates for our dates had dropped by well over $100Cndn and they had processed a refund on our credit card. We were very pleased with their service and the car we got, which was upgraded when we got to the desk at MCO.
Our final cost was $650. Cndn for a VW Jetta for 22 days.

I use Turo now. Just booked at $37/day in Carlsbad, CA when rental companies are over $100/ day.
