Is Payless Car Rental any good?

I used Payless in the beginning of November with no problems. I was able to get a convertible Mustang for the price of an economy from the bigger outfits. Overall the service was good, the car was clean and there was no pressure to take the additional insurance (granted I picked up the car at around 9 pm so maybe the fight was gone from the employee) Overall a good experence (just leave time for off site return.

I have used Payless on a number of occasions and have been generally pleased. Cars have always been new and price low. Service sometimes a little slow. Make sure you take a copy of your auto insurance policy. One time I was threatened with having to take their CDW if I couldn't prove insurance. All in all, pretty satisfied.

I'm renting from MCO as well.

Thanks for the thumbs up on Payless.

lbertera, can you tell me about how long you had to wait for the shuttle? Did you have to use the courtesy call for a pick up? Of does the shuttle run a regularly to and from the airport? How far is the rental lot from the airport? And finally, did you have to provide proof of insurance?

Thanks so much.

We just used them in Orlando and booked through Orbitz and had no problem. Got upgraded to a mini van for free. Just call them when you arrice. The wait was very short.

If you're interested, Budget has had lots of minivan availability in Orlando. $199 for a week.

Sent you PM with info.

I used payless for 2 cars at thanksgiving. Long wait for bus / long wait at counter. Had to refuse to take a 4 passenger car because we had 5 passengers. They kept wanting me to pay more to upgrade to a van.
After insisting I was paying no more than my reservation said, and I wasn't leaving in a 4 passenger car = finally they decided they better bring out that 5 seater.

They have great rates = just be prepared to wait & insist on paying no more than your reservation if they don't have your original car.

All that said would use again. Always a bargin shopper. Can't help it - it's in my blood.

car rentals

how are you getting such low rates with payless. I did a search for May and they were way over 1000.00 for an intermediate SUV

Last year we were able to rent the same vehicle thru Alamo for 192.00 8 days plus some hours. Actually our rental time was 192 hrs and the price was 192.00

Can't find anything close for this May 2007 All are way over 300.00 for the week and up!!!!!!!!

I found them intially through sidestep.com

I just re-ran the search. Here are the results.

$267 Estimated Total
Payless
Vehicle Type: Mini Van (7x - 5x )
Pickup location: at Airport
Base Price:
$210 weekly for 1.0 week

I called and Payless told me where there shuttle was at. When we walked to the area the shuttle was already there. The wait was in line at the desk, probably 20 minutes. I can't complain because we paid about $130 for the week(included taxes). I would rent again. They did not even want my proof of insurance.

As for rate, I got my rate either from Orbitz or Sidestep. I reserved though more than a month in advance; in fact my reservation was made in late August and we traveled December 4. I find that as soon as I know I am going, I reserve the cheapest and then I keep looking. If you find something better, you can reserve that and cancel your first reservation.

When we arrived I used the courtesy phone to find the location of the shuttle. When we got to the area the shuttle was already there. The only problem was that we waited in line at the desk for more than 20 minutes but it turned out that it was worth it.

Thank You Nightnurse! Switching to Budget!

I got the $199 rate! With the extras it comes to $250 for the week and they are right at the airport.
