We are thinking about going to Disney next year (mid-February) would love to stay in a DVC property we have enough Wyndham points we could stay at bonnet creek but I always like to stay on property when we go. I'd like a one or two bedroom unit. Have I waited too long? Do I need to have a deposit in RCI to even to an ongoing search?

You do not need to have points deposited, but you will have to pay the exchange fee to set up an OGS (unless it's during a time when RCI is running a promo to set up an OGS without the fee). I think your odds would be pretty good for a 1BR at SSR. Given the rarity of deposits at other resorts, it's a toss-up whether you'd have a chance at a different resort. I know that my match for BWV was with a search that was put in about 16 months before I matched, and a newer search of mine only ever hit on SSR.

Edited to add that 2BRs have not been sighted in quite a while, so unless something major changes, expect only 1BRs as an option.

If you mean President's week, that is a much more difficult request. ALL school holidays are harder to get.

Maybe the week of Valentines Day; I know Presidents week is not recommended. we stayed at SSR before by renting from a DVC member directly and banking our points. But would like to utilize our points better. WBC is nice but I like to be submersed in the magic; and the transportation to Disney isn't as nice at WBC.

If it were me, I'd make a back-up Resv. at Bonnet Creek, AND put in an OGS for DVC.

This year there seem to be a abundance of SSR 1 bedroom available for Jan, Feb, and March and that was thru RCI weeks without an search request. I would say you should be find in getting your request (SSR 1BR) fulfilled for next February.

I'm an RCI Weeks owner (passed down from my grand parents, it ends in 2021).. Ongoing searches for Disney properties have been tough.

The only Disney resort I've ever seen available has been Disney's Saratoga Springs(DV06) 1 Bedroom. Just recently I saw for April 2016 (27 points one week, and 30points another).

My searches have never shown anything unless I had enough "trading power points" banked. Even ongoing searches.

I'd love to get something like Bay Lake Towers (DV09) or The Villa's at Disney's Grand Floridian (DV12), but no one at RCI can ever tell me how many points are needed for ANY Disney resort, nor can they give me any tips or suggestions other than to do an ongoing search and hope!! They also suggest doing the search even if you don't have enough points, and bank/combine when you earn more, since once you are in the queue, you keep your place in line when something comes available. (not sure that I buy this, but several of their people told me this).

Of course there are plenty of off-site resorts for exchange to stay in that are bigger room with full kitchen and washer/dryer, and with way lower point values. Some are even very nice. But you don't get the Disney perks of Magic Express, 60 day fastpass, transportation, etc.

Welcome to TUG!

You should spend the $15 TUG Membership fee to get access to the "Sightings" thread.

But basicly, you have learn what many of us already know .. DVC exchanges are getting harder and with less options for both unit size and resort choosing. The current recommendation is to arrange a PRIVATE trade or RENTAL between yourself and a DVC owner; OR buy your own DVC points on the resale market.

I brought 90 points AKV many years ago ... and combined my stay at the Disney area Wyndham resorts .. would/could have a great vacation with a few AKV nights using my DVC points but getting value from my airline tickets by staying longer at the Wyndham resorts (like Universal days from Wyndham resorts or other RCI exchanges near to Universal or the Space Center or Daytona Beach attractions or attending alumni events at my undergraduate college.

I plan on starting an ongoing search for a Disney resort, but I don't know which code to use in my search. For example, there is DV02 and RD02. Is there a difference? Do I search using both?

It's the DV code. The RD codes are cash rentals.

If you have the ability, set up a search for just SSR & OKW (if you like OKW), and another search for all other resorts. The SSR is your "insurance" search, which will likely match. The "all other" is your miracle search, which is unlikely to match.

Bottom line, we are only seeing SSR and an occasional OKW in RCI these days.

I have had a search set up for Beach Club, Boardwalk and Bay Lake. No matches to date. It'll be a miracle if I get one of those.

I suspect the disappearance of the variety of DVC locations & 2 bd units may be somehow related to all the eBay rentals of RCI DVC exchanges. Whoever was doing this probably found out about them from the Sightings Forum. Just my speculation.
