Is it 'bing' that is slowing my computer down?

My computer seems to be surfing slower.

I notice that I now have 'bing' in a box under the address bar. (I visited that site the other day.)

Is that what is slowing it down?

If so, how do I get rid of the 'bing box' ?

I just noticed it on mine! There is a red "X" over on the far left.

Check Add/Remove programs and hopefully it is in there to be removed.

I see no "red X".

Underneath my url (web address box) is the whole bing ting----mine has a picture of Dora the Explorer, then a blank box (for searching), then the word 'bing' then news, entertainment, video, etc.

On your internet browser should be a drop down marked Tools. Then you should find toolbars and be able to delete it - if it is an additional toolbar that got added to your browser.

Another place to look would be (still under Tools) go to Internet Options, then the General Tab and check the Search defaults. There you will find any add ons and can delete them.

I will say I have not noticed any speed issue relating to Bing per se, but anything added to your machine can change the way it works...

Speed up your sluggish PC:

1) Download, install and run Tune-Up Utilities 2010

2) Do what Tune-Up recommends.

3) Run the 1-click maintenance program that comes with Tune-Up

4) Try Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Both are quicker than IE. Chrome, considerably so.

Also, under Tools, select Manage Add-ins. It could be listed there and can be removed there.

I hate these stupid toolbars that everyone hawks. You always have to uncheck the box so it isn't installed.

I wasn't able to get rid of it using any tips above.

BUT, it led me to try different things---and somehow I got rid of it.

I think it was a Nickelodeon (sp?) site that my niece played Dora the Explorer on.

Thanks for the help,
Pat
