It makes me smile that my nephews and nieces introduce my wife as my uncles wife. All of my wife's nephews and nieces introduce me as their uncle. I wasn't aware of this until yesterday when my niece introduced my wife as her uncles wife. I wouldn't introduce my wife's sisters son as "my wife's sisters son". I say nephew.

I have had friends introduce a person as their friend which seems ok. I usually give no explanation other than the first name when introducing anyone.

I understand this approach. On the other hand, I think it's courteous to explain the relationships, connections during an introduction so that the people involved can understand context.

I find introducing your wife as "my uncle's wife" odd. The exception would be if your wife wasn't your wife when your nieces and nephews were growing up. She may not "feel" like an aunt to them.

When the kids were small they called her aunt. They must have learned this introduction from my sisters husbands father & mother which sounds much longer than just say grand parents.

That is an odd introduction. In both my & DH's family aunts & uncles and their spouses are called Aunt & Uncle regardless of which one is the blood relative. One of DH's aunts introduces me as her niece in law. DH was the first of his generation to get married and Aunt Joan thought that was a good way to introduce her nephew's wife. I didn't mind the title at all and thought it was kind of funny. She followed suit as DH's siblings and cousins got married. Now, at over 90 years old, she has great and great-great niece and nephew in laws.

We, as a rule, don't specify. I've found myself going into more detail if I'm talking about my daughter's niece, for example. The connection would imply she's my grand-daughter and I've found myself following up that it's my son-in-laws niece. In conversation about the niece I would get the oddest looks (like why wasn't I with my daughter (and her niece) for a particular situation).

I, and my siblings, always spoke to my aunts and uncles on my mother’s side by their first name only. Though on my dad’s side it was always aunt or uncle followed by their name, ie. Jack on my mom’s side and Uncle Jack on my dad’s side. Spouses of my blood aunts and uncles were always referenced in the same way.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
Second cousins must be fun to introduce in some families! I had that pleasure a couple of summers ago . . . my Dad's (first) cousins are my second cousins . . . but I just introduced them as my cousins when I introduced them to my hubby. David (my DH) did ask something like "well who are they really, to you?" so I had to clarify because he knew I wasn't close to my Dad's siblings or their families (kids).

This thread is making me smile.
I refer to my aunts and uncles as aunt and uncle. I have an uncle who remarried and the children from his first marriage call him by his first name, and never refer to him as "Dad".
I refer to my current wife as "The Goddess". We've been married 36 years. She prefers "The Goddess" over being referred to as "The Current Wife". Oh well, she may be a bit picky but she is, after all, The Goddess.

I have a brother-in-law/sister-in-law that are married for the 2nd time. He was married once before her, then married / divorced and remarried her. She will sometimes introduce herself as his 2nd and 3rd wife.

We never have. Many non-related by blood people call me Uncle Bill or pops. I'm getting pops more there days as my hair seems to be turning white.

My wife is called "the Queen of the North". The cold weather follows her everywhere. We took a large group to Disney World and it snowed at the resort we were staying at. We went to Grand Cayman and people were putting on sweat shirts. The kicker might be Palm Springs when the temps dropped to below freezing. We were on Isla Mujures and someone in our group called my wife the Queen of the North. The server at the bar asked when she was released from prison as there was a cartel woman that went Queen of the North.

My husband has a brother Al (Alan) and then acquired a brother in law Al
when my sister married a guy named Alvin, who also went by Al. My husband loved to go to gatherings where he could introduce the two as “My brother Al and my other brother Al.”

I have lots of cousins - first, second, in-law, once-and-twice removed . We all introduce ourselves as cousins, and don’t explain unless anyone asks.

My mother remarried when I was 36. I introduced them as ” this is my mother and her husband”. The grandkids that were alive when they got married called him Ed. The ones born after that called him Grandpa.
However, if I had to make a call on their behalf, l referred to them as “my parents”.

Our grand daughters husbands family are arriving next door tomorrow. The gd's husbands dad re-married Carrie and his mom re-married Kerry. The odd thing is I can remember their names but have to think about the names of the mom and dad.
