Hey everybody!

I have some questions about Interval. So my mom owns a couple of timehshares. She has Wyndham and Interval. She is wanting to sign them over to us (my husband and myself). I understand Wyndham (pretty much). There's points and you have so many and pay maintenance fees on the amount of points. I understand the process of reserving, I've done it several times.

Now Interval on the other hand. Mom and her husband have owned the timeshare since 2007. They have never used it, they don't understand how to use it. I have her login info for interval and have been looking around, I have to say I don't really understand it either. Can anyone explain it to me in simple terms. I know they have a week somewhere in Mexico but I don't know about exchanging and scheduling.

Also I don't know if I'm interested in this one if it's difficult to use, the Wyndham would be enough for my family. I know with Wydham there is almost no value in selling them. You see Wydham points on Ebay all the time for almost nothing. Is Interval the same way? If she can get any $$$ out of it, I would rather her sell it than give it away to us.

I guess I will take the first crack at trying to help. First, you need to understand what Interval is. Interval is not a separate timeshare. It is a service that is provided in conjunction with your timeshare. If you ever decided you want to stay somewhere that is not a Wyndham, you could do that through Interval. Interval is a subscription membership service that you pay for annually. So, you do not have to decide whether you want to keep it or not. If you don't want the membership, just don't pay the annual membership.

Now, I am not familiar with Wyndham, but there are some timeshare companies that include the Interval membership with their ownership. So if Wyndham does this, you get interval included, if it does not, it would be a separate fee (~$130/yr).

There is additional information you can get from the link shown below:

Interval International is an exchange company similar to RCI. Usually, a timeshare company is associated with one or the other exchange company. Wyndham uses RCI, but a few of the older Wyndham's can use II, but that is definitely the exception. Exchange companies allow you to deposit a week that you own and exchange with a week somebody else owns. You have to be a timeshare owner to join. Exactly how Interval works will vary by which timeshare you own so you need to figure that part out.
I suspect they own a second timeshare that trades in Interval. However, the timeshare itself is not Interval. You mention they own somewhere in Mexico. You need to look determine what that timeshare is. You may want to take over the Wyndham, but decline the one in Mexico. Log into Interval, go to My Account and then My Memberships. Interval will be listed first, but the underlying timeshare should be below that. Let us know what you find out and we can provide more advise.

Thank you for the advice. I honestly was not aware at all about what Interval is. I assumed it was a time share company like Wyndham.

Yes they do have two separate time shares. They have points with Wyndham and a different one (totally unrelated to Wyndham) I believe in Cabo San Lucas. I will dig a little further. I have looked thru the site, but I was so confused that I didn't even know what I was seeing. Some of what I'm seeing makes sense now. I am familiar with RCI, mom puts some of her Wyndham points there at times, so i kind of get now what interval is.

She always said they had to go back to Cabo to figure out their system. I always assumed they were part of a larger time share company.....maybe not.

Thank you for the info and the link.

Contact Interval to find out what resort(s) your mother has if she has an account. They will tell you where she owns and what options she has with them.
We have had both RCI and Interval accounts for timeshares. No longer have Interval but have used them in the past.

Update!

Thanks to your advice I did do a little digging around, I haven't had time to do too much today. Her actual timeshare is with Villa Group Resorts in Puerto Vallarta, I was thinking Cabo because they bought it in Cabo. It's very confusing to me because she pays her maintenance fees thru Interval. I actually saw the Interval paperwork bill that came in. I have found their (VGR) timeshare website, but have not found a way to log into their site or contact them. I've also read the Mexican groups such as VGR does not have a deed like time shares in America.

I will continue to dig.

A lot, if not most American timeshare companies don't actually do deeded weeks anymore. It's becoming increasingly common and popular for companies to do a strictly points based system.
Also, I highly doubt that she's paying her VGR maintenance fees through Interval. If she is paying for her interval membership annually by check, that's probably what that was.
Try to find out more about the Wyndham ownership as that could be very much worthwhile: what resort she bought it, if it's fixed week etc and then hit up the Wyndham forum.

Yes you are correct about not paying the fees thru Interval. She refers to that time share as Interval even though it is not, so I misunderstood what she was telling me.

I'm good with Wyndham. I know about it, I know what she has and where she bought, and what contracts she has with them. I just don't know about this Villa Group Resorts. I don't whether it's worthwhile to keep. I don't know if there's any value in selling it. I'm working this weekend so I haven't had too much time to dig around, but I haven't found much about that group or how it works. I've thought about just having her sell it for whatever she can get, just so she doesn't have to keep paying fees for a timeshare that she never uses, but I have no idea how to go about doing that either.

Sometimes people have to pay the transfer fees just to get rid of an unwanted timeshare.
Sometimes it's better to just stop paying and default on it if credit score isn't a big concern. As long as the balance/initial payment is taken care of, don't default on a loan etc obviously. But not paying MF just makes the timeshare unusable by the owner.

Does anyone know if you can book more than one unit in getways at the same time? I need two 2 bedroom units and am afraid if I book one, there may not be any availability going back in.

I believe you may have to call in for that one. I know when I have tried to do multiply at the same time, my account just glitches.

Hi Loriaps:
I have a friend who also own a Villa Group timeshare. She owns at Villa del Palmar - Cabo. The other one in Cabo is Villa del Arco.
The Villa Group has a few other resorts in Nuevo Vallarta, Cancun and Loreto. My friend will be staying at the Cancun one for the first time over New Years. She owns off season in Cabo (summer), so she had to pay a season upgrade to stay in Cancun over New Years. (I mention this to let you know that internal trading is available within the Villa Group resort system.)

You call the management company to either reserve your week at Cabo (to stay there for vacation), or to deposit into Interval's exchange company. I can ask for the number if you are unable to find it. You should ask the management company when the contract ends. My friend's ends in 2023 (or thereabouts).

Also, post in the Mexico forum. That is where I found several threads re: Villa Group.
easyrider appears to own weeks with Villa Group. Send him a private message by clicking on his blue user name and then "start a conversation".
He is very helpful and will be a great resource as you learn about Villa del Palmar.
