Interval Question - observation on Max Occupancy

Why does your listing on an exchange show a different maximum occupancy than the unit allows? Does Interval always list them as max 6 people on the 2 bedrooms?

Many 2 bedroom timeshares only sleep 6 as shown in Interval like this.....
6 = Private Sleeping Capacity
2 = Number of bedrooms
6 = Maximum Occupancy

Most Marriott's 2 bedrooms (including Cypress Harbot) show....Sleeping Capacity in the Interval Resort listing:
6 = Private Sleeping Capacity
2 = Number of bedrooms
8 = Maximum Occupancy

Note: Our JC has 2bdrms -max 6 is OK.....but our MCH has 2 bedrms and max 8 and I thought it would show that on the exchg.

Just wondering if it is just my listing...or is this the norm????

Because the maximum of eight is for owners only, technically not exchangers, so II will reflect 6 for all their two bedrooms.

Happy timesharing.

II has recently told me that regardless of the number of people who may occupy the unit (max), when it's listed for exchange purposes, it will "trade for" the private occupancy. I didn't completely understand it but that's what I was told. This was a general II policy, not Marriott-specific.

Owner or exchanger doesnt matter.

II lists sleeping capacity as private sleeping capacity and maximum sleeping capacity. For example a two bedroom could be a 6/6 meaning 6 privately and 6 maximum or it could be a 6/8 meaning 6 privately and 8 maximum.

A two bedroom could also be a 4/6 with 4 privately and 6 maximum.

For a sleeping area to be considered private it must have seperate access to a bathroom without walking through another sleeping area.

You are correct. What II shows doesn't control how many people the resort will allow, at least at a Marriott. An owner can see what the maximum allowable occupancy is - from his/her ownership materials. However, an exchanger looking at II info or talking to an II rep will often be quoted a lower occupancy than the resort allows.

Marriott's Grand Chateau is another example. All II info shows a max of 10 people in a 3BR. Talking to an II rep gets the same response. However, Marriott allows 12 people to occupy the 3BR, equal to the sleeping capacity.

Interval's Resort Directory lists Grand Chateau 3 bedroom units as sleep 8 privately,12 max.

Westgate Park City confirmation trade:
two bedroom 8 privately, 10 maximum

I stand corrected.

Technically when one exchanges, they can only request up to the same number for private sleeping as their unit allows. For a studio that's usually 2, 4 for a 1 BR and 6 for a 2 BR. So if you request a resort that has units that have 6/6 2 BR units and 6/8 units, you might get the smaller one. Plus the resort has the option of limiting you to the number on the exchange regardless of the actual capacity of the unit. I don't personally know any resorts doing that but several years ago there were a few posts about resorts that did just that.

Also with all the Marriott's I am familial with, the actual capacity of the 2 BR units such as GO is only 6 even though there are 4 beds including pullouts. Technically one is supposed to have permission to to up to 8 though I don't know of them enforcing it. I do own at a resort that has a different capacity for adults than when kids are added to the mix for some size units and they too require special permission to go to the max with adults and they do enforce it.
