Interval Confirmed Reservation [Can I get my deposit back from II?]

I have been confirmed for [a week I reserved at my home resort.] In 2010 I turned one of my weeks into Interval and I requested the use of this week for 2011. I now have this week confirmed and I also have my normal two weeks at [my resort] as well.

I am trying to rent one of these [weeks] and I also want to rent my confirmed [exchange that] Interval has confirmed for me.

I see where I can pay $49 to issue this week via a guest certificate.

Can I rent this week via interval and use the guest certificate method to pass this week to the person that rents from me?

I want to make sure there will be no issues to me or the renter (guest) if I do this. Thanks for any help and feedback on this.

You can rent the weeks you own, but you cannot rent the exchange - it is expressly prohibited in the II membership rules. Guest Certificates are for guests, not renters.

You can cancel that exchange, forfeit your maintenance fee, and get your deposit back, more than 60 days out.

If you are caught renting an exchange you can lose your acct., your deposits, your exchanges, and the fees you have paid.

Follow-up question

Denise, thanks for your response. I guess my option would be to request another week at [my home resort] and then rent my two owned weeks that I still have on deposit with Marriott, correct? Any other ideas.......as I am new to this process. Thanks,

I am not sure what you mean by "deposited with Marriott." If you have 2 weeks reserved at your home resort you can rent them.

If you have an exchange, and get another one, yes, you can use them yourself.

Your first response you indicated:

"You can cancel that exchange, forfeit your maintenance fee, and get your deposit back, more than 60 days out"

I was thinking I would cancel the confirmed exchange I now have for week 8, and ask for another week. As I did not do this 24 hours after my confirmation i am stuck paying a cancellation fee, but I do not see any other option available to me. Do you agree?

If I go this route I still have my 2 owned weeks with Marriott for 2011 and I can then rent both these weeks and just use my interval week.

This seems to be my only option if I actually want to rent my weeks?

Do you agree? Any other options you might suggest? Thanks

I'm sorry - I see what you mean now.

By get your week back, I mean get your deposit back. I do not know if you can take your deposit back out of II and use it at your home resort. (If that's what you mean.)

Got it, ok, I will ping interval and see what I need to do to get this week back. Thanks for your help.

I will move your question over to the Marriott board where you will get expert help.

You cannot cancel your deposit and get the use of your original week (home resort). This is the reason that Interval offers other options such as request first, because once deposited, it now belongs to them to use to fulfill other requests.

I agree with Indy. However, if you cancel your confirmed exchange, you will get a substitute week which you can use to confirm another exchange. The substitute week will not have the Marriott preference that your original deposit had for exchanging to other Marriott weeks.

That substitute week might have exchange limitations, depending on how far in advance you cancel your currently confirmed exchange. If you cancel more than 59 days in advance of the confirmed check-in date, you will have no restriction. If you cancel 14 to 59 days in advance of check-in, you can confirm a replacement exchange only within 59 days of when you want to travel. If you cancel within 7 to 13 days of check-in, you can confirm a replacement exchange only within 30 days of when you want to travel.

If you cancel within 6 days of check-in, you will not get a substitute week.

Everyone, thanks for your comments and suggestions. I will ping Interval on Monday and look to cancel and rebook another week. My existing confirmed interval week is Feb 2011, so I still have plenty of time to rebook.

You might have more time to rebook than you think. When you cancel, the substitute week will be valid for an exchange for travel anytime within a year after the date you cancel your current exchange. No need to book by February 2011, but the earlier you put in your request, the more likely that it will be fulfilled.

Everyone, I contacted interval and was able to cancel my week 8 confirmed reservation and as I was new to using timeshare exchanges customer service provided a courtesy credit and allowed me to open up a new request without incurring any additional fees. The normal fee to re-deposit would have been $179. My exchange week/request is now available until Feb. 2012.

I am thankful interval helped me out in this instance and I now will keep closer track of my requests and confirmations. Once you request is confirmed you only have 24 hours to make a change for free, after the 24 hour period you have to pay to make any changes.
