Hi, I'm hoping to get some feedback. I received a call from Interval saying that they can "rent" out the 6 certificates I get per year for a minimum of $1,400. The rental is guaranteed between 60-90 days from the time the rental agreement is signed. The catch is that you have pay the $399 activation fee upfront.

I've been an owner for several years, and I've never heard of this before. Is this legit? Any insight is highly appreciated!

It's just another advance-fee scam.

This is no different than you inheriting $1 billion from your long-lost Nigerian prince uncle and someone demanding you pay them $399 to get the $1 billion.

You can't rent out certificates. That wasn't Interval calling you. The scammers would just take your $399 and then try to milk you for more and more or just disappear.

There are many variations of this scam, but they all end the same way -- send us money now for some big gain down the road that will never happen.

Timeshare owners are frequently the target of scammers, so don't be surprised if you get more offers.

Thank you for your feedback! I'm so sick of this industry and their million scams.

100% bogus. Stop and think - Why would interval need you as an intermediary? Scam

They called me last week. I made them waste their time and spin their wheels with their scam sales pitch. They offered to let me do 12 weeks and I said I would.

Then they asked me for the $399 fee upfront. I told them to go ahead and do the rentals and then send me the proceeds. All I heard was a click on the other end.

Hopefully they automatically placed me on their "do not call" list.

What industry? The scammer, con artist, thief industry? Who isn't sick of them?

Sadly, this industry is the timeshare industry. You know it. There are lots of ways scammers use someone's timeshare to separate them from their money. Of course there are lots of other scams out there that have nothing to do with timeshares. It's just that timeshare seem to have more of them, or at least that is the perception. I guess they figure if someone fell for it once (when they bought) they are an easy target again.

I agree with your last statement, and have said it many times. This is why they love to get owners back to presentations.

I don't agree that "the timeshare industry" perpetuates (millions of) scams of the type referenced in this thread. That is like saying that the banking industry has millions of scams involving stealing money from your account, or the cell phone or email industry has millions of scams using html links, phishing schemes and fake websites to steal money from you.

This isn’t an industry scam though. This is literally just scammers who are preying on timeshare owners. It was not Interval or any other timeshare company that called you.
