Hi Folks,
Not really sure this belongs here as I believe this type of ownership may fall into a different category than a typical timeshare. Wintershare (14 weeks), FamilyShare (16 weeks), Equishare (24 or 25 weeks). Anyway, I am hoping to connect with other owners or with people who might have more knowledge about this type of ownership and the other ownership opportunities at Smuggs. I would also be interested in any opinions or experiences that others have had. Just starting to explore this option and want to try to gather as much information as possible. https://www.smuggs.com/resort-info/real-estate/

Cheers,
Josh

All of the above except full ownership are still considered timeshares.

I have never owned more than club ownership, but I do have a friend who owns 2 Family Shares at Smuggs in the Falcons building (West Hill). She and her husband are long time Smuggs club owners (and also at Trapp Family Lodge) and then additionally ventured into Family Share ownership at Smuggs. In fact, they have the Family Shares up for sale now due to the fact they are going to move to the Villages in Florida.

I don't know all the details, but I do know they usually rented out many of the high demand weeks (especially winter ski weeks since they themselves are not winter people) and then would use some weeks themselves, of course, especially in summer and fall. Some weeks sat empty (mainly off season). She said the rentals paid their maintenance fees, etc.

However some things transpired recently which led many Family Share owners to cut their rental agreements with Smuggs, leaving them to rent strictly on their own. I believe it had something to do with Smuggs taking increasing higher fees to rent their units out. I could be wrong. So now they only rely on renting out the units themselves, which they can do on the owners intranet page on the website and also the 2 Smuggs owners Facebook pages, Redweek, TUG, etc.

They rarely exchanged some of the weeks as far as I know, but that is certainly an option through RCI.

That Falcons 7 might very well be one of their units- I don't remember which units they own- but I know they do have a ground floor unit and a top floor unit.

You can also join the Smugglers Notch Resort Exchangers, Renters and Owners Facebook page to get more information from other owners.

Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I appreciate the links to other places for further information as well. I am most interested in the ongoing fees and if they come to about the same per week as just owning a regular week. So 16 weeks might be 16 * $1000.00ish, for argument's sake.

Thanks again, I am going to keep looking for more information. Do you know where your friends have their units up for sale? I am primarily interested in ski weeks, but would be happy for some other weeks throughout the year.

My friends have 2 Family Share units in the Falcons Building in West Hill and I think maybe the one listed in the real estate link you provided - #7- MIGHT be one of theirs. Not sure. But that one is a ground unit and I know they do own a ground unit.

I honestly do not know what their maintenance fees are there.

I think she has 5 weeks in the winter Feb/March, summer weeks 29, 30 and 31 (prime summer weeks there), and 8 "float" weeks that vary each year. (spring/fall).

I am sending you my friend's phone number. Check your inbox here on TUG,
