insurance from HVC

Does anyone have experience with insurance from HVC via Travelex? The policy pops up as I am trying to pay 2026 maintenance fee. Is the coverage same as offered by MVC? For $110/year, the price is reasonable, especially for multi-week owners with a few 4-night trips.

I’ve looked into the HVC plan a couple of times, and from what I understand it’s basically Travelex’s version of the same coverage MVC owners get, just structured a bit differently. The price seems pretty reasonable, especially for an annual plan. I haven’t used it personally, but a few owners I talked to said it mainly covers the usual stuff—trip interruption, delays, medical, baggage, etc. If you take multiple short trips each year, it might actually be worth it. The only thing I’d double-check is how their “covered reasons” work and whether it reimburses your use-year costs the same way MVC does. Other than that, it seems like a decent add-on.

I called Hyatt and did fair amount research online. Hyatt uses usage year for the policy, which means that If I book a trip for next Spring and use points from 2025 usage year plus 2026 usage year, and I only purchase policy for year 2026, the policy will not kick-in because I do not have insurance coverage for usage 2025. I will go ahead to purchase the policy(premium is reasonable) when paying my 2026 maintenance fee.

What does it cover? Only timeshare trips?

Not sure that would be useful to me. We drive to HHS and have AAA and medical insurance plus delayed flight coverage from credit cards.

So what is covered? Last minute cancellation fees? I’d doubt they can restore my CUP points that will be forfeited or go to LCUP

Now if they had a 52 week travel policy that covered every country that would be useful.

It gives you the maintenance fee per point unused. We have found it to be reasonable when my daughter had tonsillitis and needed to be supervised. We received our Maui maintenance fees pro-rated for the number of days we missed. They would have also paid our airline rescheduling costs from what I understand but for $150 I didn’t bother to submit,
