Insight into MVC Sales Practices**

We had a very bad experience last Fall at a DRI Resort in Tahoe. The Sales man came in late. By his blood shot eyes and other characteristics it was obvious he had been deep into the bottle the night before and maybe a pick me up that morning. When he tumbled to the fact we were not buying he got upset and aggressive. He wanted to know why we were there if we were not interested. We said for the Gifts. He then started talking about how that was unfair and a disservice for the Sales People. Our reply was then do not invite us. He stormed out early. But the Sales Manager made us wait the full 60 minutes before giving us the promised gifts.

We've had a number of decent sales tours and a number of poor but not horrible ones. Our worst MVC was at Ko Olina in 2018. Generally MVC has been better than Wyndham & Bluegreen who have been better than Westgate.

I am realizing that I have never dealt with an unpleasant sales person. I am up front that I am not interested in buying more, they do their spiel, or send the manager/closer in. We have pleasant banter, they understand I am there for the bonuses, cash or points. I have not ever been there longer than 90 minutes. For me its easy money/points. I see people comment about how their spouse gets upset or wound up by the "sales pitch". Mine does not, we are both pretty even tempered.
I use the meeting for myself. They are always pitched as education or information sessions. So when they ask why I am there I always say to find out more information, then I start asking questions I want to know: Best places to eat around there, has the rep visited any other resorts if so which did they like and what did they do there. Any tours etc that they think people should go. That kills a good amount of time and the Sales guy gets to talk about themselves so they feel good. And I have received some good tips. Then when the pitch comes nicely say we just came for the education. Not buying at this time. Know it is a once in a lifetime chance and will cost more but right now it doesn't not financial sense because we have other commitments. Closer comes in and we repeat the same. Usually out in under 60 unless we get to talking to much and having fun. I don't go in looking for a battle. Not my job to correct them. I go with the belief that the sales rp is saying what he was told and it is his managers job to train him not me.

Was his name Lonnie? Did he tell you he needed to pay his mortgage and feed his kids?

No but he almost cried about how he had to leave Maui after the fires.

Wow that sounds like Lonnie. Must be his doppelganger.

Based on a sales meeting this week, I am told that they will allow you to purchase four Encore packages after a Trust point purchase. After four Encores, you will not be able to purchase additional Encore packages unless you make another purchase of Trust points.

Why would they stop selling you a product that brings in revenue AND REQUIRES you to attend a timeshare sales meeting?

I have never purchased trust points (though I own some) but I can assure you that I e purchased more than four Encore Packages since my last developer purchase. They never seem to have any problem selling me another one so long as I don’t have one outstanding.

They’re also happy to bribe me to attend a sales presentation, even if it’s only a couple of weeks since my last one!

Who told you this? The sales person or the person pushing the Encore package? I've been in a situation where we heard the salesperson tell the Encore person not to offer us a package. They did anyway. The people pushing the Encore package earn a commission on their sales.

New to Marriott system
Please explain an encore package to me
Thank you

Discount vacation package to return (stay encore) with the requirement you attend another presentation. Essentially they want another bite at the apple.
For many it’s a cheap way to get extra vacations without the commitment of purchasing more points
