In the big coupon book I got today in the mail from Costco was an insert advertising their inkjet refill service. It says the prices are $7.99 and $9.99 for HP, Canon, Lexmark, and Dell cartridges. There's a coupon good for $2 off.

Has anyone used their service? Was it any good? It would certainly save a lot of money if it works well.

For about the same price, we have our cartridges refilled at Wal Greens and Cartridge World - lots of other places refill them, too. If a cartridge is defective when I get it home, they will replace it, no questions asked. That's only happened once - plus they gave me a coupon for my trouble.

Do the refilled cartridges work as well as the new ones?

I can't tell any difference, however, I'm not printing photos on photo paper or anything like that. If your printer is still under warranty, using a refilled cartridge voids the warranty.

In some respects, the refilled cartridges are BETTER. What I have found is that the refilled cartridges from Cartridge World normally have more ink or toner in them than the brand new ones do. They seem to last longer to me.

I do not use them on my high capacity printer at the office, but it is what we exclusively use at home. I haven't had any issues with the color cartridges either --- I use them for photos (when I don't have them printed out at Walgreens).

I've typically just bought refurb cartridges on eBay, but getting them refilled locally sure would be more convenient. Do they refill them right there for you, or do they send them off, or do they sell refill kits?

Another issue is the cartridges that have chips in them.

I wonder what they charge to refill color toner cartridges. I have a cheaper color laser printer that a bought a couple years ago and it's almost time to replace one of the four toner cartridges.

I saw that coupon in our Costco flyer too just now. But, I like some others buy no name brand cartridges off Amazon or ebay for about the same price.

On the coupon it says to bring them to the one-hour photo desk and they should have the cartridge cleaned and refilled in about an hour. It also says it is available at select locations, so maybe it's not at all Costcos.

They had ink service in Austin, but I moved to the Houston area and they do not have ink service. So it definitely is only in some areas and stores.

The ink service in austin was like a 1 hour photo service. It depends on how many they have to fill in front of yours. But you can either drop it off and pick it up later, like photos. Or shop and pick it up on your way out.

Quality was good, I had no issues with Austin Costco ink refill service. Wish it was in Houston, but alas, it is not.

I think it depends on the cartridge but my Black HP21 refilled at Rapid Refill has a whole lot more ink in it than new ones.

There are some cartridges that refill better than others. I've had very little luck with my HP23 color cartridges at either Cartridge World or Costco. CW gave me credit towards the purchase of another one, and Costco just gave me my money back. My other cartridges have been fine at Costco and CW. Costco is by far the better deal.
