We will be staying at the Mayan and the Grand for two weeks later this year (with one tween and one teen) and was wondering what activities (inexpensive or free) might be offered on-site?

Off-site we are planning on visiting Xplor, Xcaret, Xel-Ha, P. Moreles, C. Itza, Akumal Bay

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you

Well, you can take lots of long walks there - HAHA - like getting to the pool area. And then go to the pool and beach...they are fabulous.

hmmmm, anything else, anyone?

Shuttle to Playa is $8 each r/t.

There is no Grand Palace, but there is a Grand Mayan unless you are referring to another resort.
I'd contact the concierge at the Mayan Palace and the Grand Mayan now to inquire about excursions/tours being offered, and the activities available on site for your age children. There is an extensive schedule posted each day for daily activities by the pools. In the pools are volley ball and other water sports. Also there is tennis, golf, snorkeling, etc. Go to Playa and take the ferry to Cozumel for part of the day.
Getting the info well ahead of time will help you plan some activities and day trips without getting into schedule overload. Enjoy......

I took my DD and a friend when they were tweens and they did have several activities that they participated in ... I believe some dance type class and they painted pottery. They also had a few other options that they did not do.

Any more "free' things????

Get a palapa with an ocean breeze and relax all day with your Ipod, book and a couple of mags. After lunch start drinking. Doze intermittently. Swim. Walk on the beach. Take advantage of happy hour 2 for 1. When the sun goes down, get dressed up and go to dinner. Drink some more. Have a smoke. Take a moonlight stroll with your loved one. Enjoy the music at Havana Moon. Midnight swim. Back to the room. Indulge. Sleep. Wake up. Repeat.

Thanks for the info. thus far. I appreciate it. We will be there over Christmas and New Years so hopefully there will be some holiday activities offered.

When we stayed at the Grand Mayan resort in the Mayan Riviera, we visited the Mayan ruins, which were relatively inexpensive for admission. Some places were free because the ruins were sandwiched in between hotels, like Yamil Lu'um in Cancun city. However, that requires transportation, and I believe we rented a car from a local area Payless car rental outlet, not an airport location since the prices tend to be higher there. However, that does require some Spanish fluency because the Payless folks speak some English, but they are not totally fluent, and the ability to speak some Spanish helps when you get stuck. We negotiated a deal in which we returned the car back to the airport location. The fee incurred wasn't much, and we got to see some wonderful ruins for almost nothing: Chichen Itza, Tulum, Coba, El Rey, etc. If you have kids, El Rey will be great because there are iguanas EVERYWHERE. Even if you don't have a car, you can probably ride a taxi or bus there since it is definitely something to see.

When we go, we've enjoyed (all free) yoga on the beach, water aerobics, cycling around the compound, dancing lessons, the free evening shows, karaoke. If you're going with a member, or are a member yourself, the health club is free as well.

Our favorite activity, however, is to walk 10 minutes either way on the beach. It'll be practically deserted, nice and sandy, and beautiful.
