In a nutshell - why do people hate RCI?

I am wondering why people are so negative about RCI? It seems like they offer so much more choice for someone who is interested in traveling the world. The resorts may not be as luxurious as the ones in Interval but at least they have them. II is fine for Southern Spain but their inventory for the rest of Europe, for example, is pretty meager.

I have heard about the lawsuit, that they keep the best weeks for rent as opposed to opening them up for exchange. But I don't know how it was finally settled. Is that everyone's experience? that they are not getting the exchanges they think they are entitled to with RCI?

In a nutshell, it's because people's real-world experience using RCI as a member inevitably falls short of the picture painted by the full-freight timeshare sellers when they tout RCI exchanges as 1 more reason you should buy-buy-buy.

That is to say, RCI timeshare exchanges are OK if people do them right, but they are not always fabulous & automatic & reliable & cheap. Thus RCI can't help falling short of perfection.

Caution: Acknowledging that can be taken as proof of membership in the RCI Can Do No Wrong crowd. So it goes.
