Do I have to book a week at my home resort, deposit it in II and then exchange?

The way it works for a Vistana unit, once it was registered with II it showed up in my account. There are several buttons in II under Exchange -> My Units:
Deposit the unit - use the credit when manually searching.
Exchange - start searching right away but dont deposit unless I pick an exchange.
Place Request - Set up an automatic search and deposit if matched.

There are a couple other options I’ve never tried, hotel, cruise, short stay…I dont think those are valuable options.

The process will depend on the resort and system you own.

With Hyatt you have to move the points to EEE which is basically a deposit. However you can deposit as many or as few points as you want. I have two Hyatt weeks and I just noticed that in my II account it lists to ownership weeks but does not label them with the week or contract number. is this because the EEE is in an overall bank for my account and not tied to a week after deposit?

That's correct. EEE points are associated with your membership and not with a particular week.

For example, let's say you owned week 26 and week 28 at Pinon pointe. If you deposited 1880 points from week 26 into EEE and then sold that week, but kept your week 28, those points would remain in your EEE bank.

I believe you have to reserve something and then you deposit it. I also believe that they will not let you deposit something that is between weeks 25-32 unless you own a fixed week. If that is still the case you would want to reserve a week as close to the summer as possible for the best trading power but one that still gives you at more than 90 days before check in.
