II exchange to Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar

Hi,

I just got a last minute exchange to Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar. I have lots of questions and the resort and the island. Read some reviews on the internet complaining about the resort fee. Is there any extra fees that I should expect? Tried to call the resort using my Verizon cell phone and it warned me about international long distance charge. Would our cell phones work there? We have AT&T and Verizon phones.

Rental car is $1100 for the week. I heard renting cars in town is cheaper but don't want to risk it. Any reliable resources for car rental?
