I have a confirmed exchange with II for a Sunday check in and I want to try to change to a Friday check in. Is there a fee involved? I know that I was told by the II rep in HHI several years ago that there was no fee, but have been told just the oppposite by two Marriott desk II reps within the past two weeks. I have searched through my II book and can't find the information.

Yes, there is a fee because u would be canceling one exchange and requesting another.

"I know that I was told by the II rep in HHI several years ago that there was no fee, but have been told just the oppposite by two Marriott desk II reps within the past two weeks. "

There is no II rep on HHI - do u mean a sales rep at a resort? Or the front desk staff?
If you own at a resort where there is a variety of check-in dates, you can reserve at that resort for any of those dates....but even thru Marriott, if u change your reservation date/day there is a $29 fee.

To add to what Pat said, you would need to find another exchange available for the dates that you want. You cant just change the check in day of an existing exchange. You would then be charged another exchange fee.

Grayfal, thank you for responding to my question. There was,at least two years ago, an II rep on HHI. I have attended presentations run by an II rep at Marriott Grande Ocean and have also spoken to II reps on HHI on the phone. There is/was a dedicated II rep at Marriott Desert Springs also. Today I made my daily call to II Marriott desk to check availability and try to change my check in day. No luck, but I did ask the rep what II policy is. She told me that as long as the resort stays the same and the week stays the same there is no fee to change the check in day on Marriott to Marriott exchanges. So, that is the official word TODAY. The next rep may give me a different story, but today's rep told me what I thought was the correct policy.

There IS an II rep. on HHI, officed at Grand Ocean. I visited her in her office just a couple of weeks ago (early April, 2009).

Call GO Desk [1-843-686-7343] and ask to be connected to the II rep.'s phone. Leave message if not in.

That was also the official word last fall when I changed check in days from Monday to Sunday of the same week. I asked what the charge would be and the answer was "no charge".:) I did, however, find the exchange I needed online before calling II, so I knew the check in day was available.

Thank you for the info and the 'kind' correction....after I posted this, I thought a bit more and realized it would make sense in a location like HHI - where there are more then a few Marriott resorts - there certainly could be an employee of II based at the resort. I based my answer on the usual confusion people have between the two separate companies.
And I have never looked for an II rep while vacationing....it really never occured to me.

I have also been a multiple week Marriott Owner for 8+ years and an active poster on the Marriott Board here and have never heard/seen there that u can change the check-in day (same week) on a Mar to Mar exchange for free.
Many times I have gotten a bigger size unit during flexchange - same check-in date - and have been charged the $99 fee.
I am now wondering if I should not be charged that fee????

And maybe this thread would be better located on the Marriott Board?

If you can't get it through II you can also try Marriott room control at the resort. Depending on the occupancy they can change things around. Several times I have had back to back exchanges that did not match by a day or two and the resort team has been able to adjust it so that I do not have to change rooms and I check out a day earlier.

We were at Barony (either last September or the year before) and the II rep from GO came to the scheduled Owner's Reception, giving us all an opportunity for a good discussion. At the time I thought it was something that happened throughout all of the resorts.

I think that if the reservation is made through II, they are fairly strict about requiring payment of the reservation change fee to switch the check-in day. But if it's a Marriott reservation at your home resort, you might get lucky when you call in and they'll waive their fee.
