Iconic Olympic Surfer Photo!

The video is available. Click on the link and it will take you to NBC Sports on YouTube where you can replay the scene that created this photo. Not photoshopped at all!

Who knew you could hang 10 in France ;) :ROFLMAO:

You can't. The surfing competition is being held in French Polynesia.
I'll bet there is surfing down by Biarritz, France's southern Atlantic coast. I've read of some "monster wave" spots not far south of that.
But it might all be too far off-shore & not picturesque enough for a TV event.

The competition is being held in Tahiti, which is a French territory. The photo is awesome!

Not sure what the big deal is about that photo. Flyaway kick-outs like that, including all manner of poses from salutes, shakas, fist pumps, to #1 like in the picture, etc. are an extremely common sight at large, hollow surf breaks such as Teahupo'o (the spot in Tahiti wshere that photo was taken) and Pipeline on O'ahu's North Shore. When I used to be out at Pipe almost every day during North Shore winters I'd see stuff like that almost every day. During competitions it's even more common as surfers try to make an impression with the judges to cap off the ride.

Well for those of us who don't surf and aren't out at the Pipe almost every day, this was something we hadn't seen before. So yeah, to us it's a big deal.

I think all Olympic surf competitions should be held here. These waves have been spectacular. I haven't been surfing for nearly 40 years now, but these events are making me want to fly to Tahiti and grab a board.

I don't even think it is a photo. It is just a single frame from a video.
