And I'm pretty sure it's at Kauai Lagoons.

Checked in last night after a quick flight from Oahu. Parents took the resort's free shuttle since they were on an earlier flight and we picked up the rental car. We have a 3 BR OV unit on DC points (discounted under the promo from last year) and were placed 4th floor end unit in building C (Matched our request). We have a half view of the pool and half view of the ocean/mountains. Looks like there's one stack of 3BR in each building.. and the units are just awesome. The 3rd bedroom / Bath and lanundry are at the end of a hallway that starts by the front door so it's like a guest suite. The master has a double-door exit to the balcony as well as the main living room 5 panel slider. The 3BR gives an extra 2 chairs and table on the balcony (plus the original table/4 chair set and 2 loungers. Of any MVCI property this has by far the largest / best balcony I've seen. Rest of the inside is very well appointed including nice high end appliances... SubZero fridge/freezer and a convection micro. Off the laundry (full sized W/D) there is a storage closet with pretty much nothing in it. Was a great place to stash our suitcases! Master closet was big enough (with an air vent and a light) that we could put our 2yo in the PnP in there. Seems to work great and he slept very well.

Earlier this morning we walked the grounds. The pool itself is a great size for the number of units currently built. Lots of loungers and shade areas without much competition. Landscaping is lovely and well-kept inside the defined inside of the property. Definitely a "desert" view between the pool and the ocean... a road to nowhere and a bare patch between the golf course and the resort. We walked around behind the parking area/workout facility.. and it got a little sketchy from there. There is a boarded up building next to the OF units which has been vandalized/graffiti'd quite a bit. I'm surprised MR hasn't done more to cover up for it. There's a parking lot which seems to be used by locals going to the shore since we saw a couple cars and folks that just glared at us as they walked by. The path hasn't been kept up, nor the landscaping in this area. If MR owns that area, I hope they step up and clean up. I wonder what the full-time owners think of it all....

Overall it's a small beautiful property that is nestled wayyyyy back at the end of a windy road through the golf course. If you are looking for a peaceful place to read a book and enjoy a great view.. this is it! If you are looking for lots of activities, life and party...

One additional tidbit.. the Costco is only 2.5 miles from the resort area, so it was a great stop to get supplies. Still looking for the "normal" grocery.. that will be this afternoon's expedition....

We'll be there in November and can't wait. Thanks for the update. We begin in a 2BR unit and then change to a 3BR (Ocean View) when other family arrive. Let us know any other local insights you gain through your stay!

We will also be there in a 3BR GV in November, can't wait. If you find a grocery, let us know where it is. A Safeway would be best since we picked up a bunch of free $50 gift cards though MyPoints. Looking up on the Safeway website, it looks like there is one about 10 miles north. Not ideal, but won't turn down free groceries. Also planning to hit Costco.

Safeway is in the next town to the north - Kapa'a.

We stayed at Lagoon's this past summer and really enjoyed it. There is a Times Supermarket a couple of miles away in the Kukui Grove Shopping Center. Follow the road in the complex past the Kauai Marriott/Kauai Beach Club check in and make a left onto Rice street which becomes Nawiiwii Road (56) You'll go approx. 2 miles and then come to an intersection with Kaumualli Hwy. Make a left and then another left into the rear section of the Kukui Grove Shopping Center. The Times Market will be on your left. We found the prices very reasonable for Hawaii and the produce & fruit was good. For even better produce and fruit try to catch one of the many farmer's markets.

Aloha,

Jon

P.S. Times Supermarket is smaller than the Safeway in Kapa'a; however, we liked it much better and their prices were better.

If you go to Kapaa for a supermarket, I recommend Foodland as your best choice.

I think they want to use their gift cards:

OK thanks all for the comments. The Times grocery is actually across the street from Costco :) so that worked out fine. One thing of note is I think they only get new deliveries 2x a week.. Tuesdays and one other day... So when I shopped on Sunday there were lots of empty product shelves on some normal items. Just keep in mind you may need to come back or change your menu-ing based on availability. Selection was pretty decent and prices not totally out of whack.

Ventured out last night down to Poipu for dinner and a chance to check out Waiohai Beach Club. The grounds there were lovely... lots of garden and nice pool areas. The beach seems nice there too.. but in contrast it's a lush and green resort with a great ocean view. Kauai Lagoons has not only the ocean view, but beautiful mountain vistas in the distance. My DW and I both commented that we kinda could get the straight ocean view on any coast, but the KL view was showing us Hawaii. We ate at Keoki's Paradise in the plaza across from Waiohai with reservations on OpenTable. It was busy and they had great service/food with local fish selections. Would definitely return there. There is also a Roy's in that plaza. We walked around there as well and it reminded us of Coligny Plaza on HHI if that sets anyone's perspective.

We have a family photo shoot setup for tonight on the North Shore! Booked ahead with a photographer we had checked out online. Will advise!

good morning

Deej

did you use Dana from Garden Isle photography??? He did our 25th anniv shoot at Ke'e beach in 2011...

We used Erin Gregerson and she was awesome. We shot at Anini beach on the north shore which had some awesome backdrops around sunset. My wife had pre-arranged and she was super easy to work with. If anyone needs her contact just PM me...

This morning we did an island helicopter tour with Jack Harter Helicopters. +1 vote added to the other Tuggers' reccommendations for Jack Harter. We had an awesome time.. did the doors-off Hughes 500E with one other couple and the pilot. Ride was really smooth even though there were rain and clouds in a couple areas we saw some amazing sights and took lots of pics. There really can be no better way to see most of Kauai! JH has an office over at the KBC, sharing with Enterprise FYI. We stopped in over there and they reccommended booking at least 3 days in advance to make sure you get the time you want. Thanks!

One weird thing about this TS. When you first see the signs they do say Kauai Lagoons but as you near the resort (and at the entrance to the bldg) there are no signs which say "Kauai Lagoons" (wierd ??) But as the op said it is the only thing at the end of the road so hard to get lost.

Well the whole area seems to be called Kauai Lagoons... Golf club etc... and the alternate name of Kalanipu'u is on the road signs and leads to what we consider Kauai Lagoons MVC property. Once you turn in either of the two entrances, just follow the Kalanipu'u signs and you'll end up at the right place! Def. a bit confusing with all the windy roads... (and hope you like speed bumps!)
