I know there is a lot of interest in how much you can actually get for a rental, so I thought I'd post my experience. I rented my WKORV, 2 bdm., ocean view for $3,400 today. I had it listed on TUG, Redweek, and Bidshares for a couple of months, but since I was gone 5 weeks of that time, I wasn't as on top of it as I could have been. I priced it at $100 less than the lowest WKORV Ad on TUG.

I actually had 2 renters contact me last week who both wanted to rent it. I maybe could have gotten a bit more, but I am happy to have it rented early at the asking price. :cheer:

And for those who wonder why I'm renting, we are spending 2 weeks on Kauai in our new ocean front unit at Kauai Beach Villas next summer!

Denise,

That is a really good price for your unit! Did you get any low offers as well?

Pedro

The "serious" renters who contacted me all asked if the price was negotiable and I told them that I had the lowest asking price on TUG, so it was firm.

I had a 4th of July week reserved, but the person who actually rented it asked me to change it to a July 13th check-in date and I was able to do that.

I just wanted to add, that I asked for a $100 deposit to put the Resv. in their name and the balance in full as soon as they received the confirmation - paid with Paypal.

CONGRATS.... I think you did very well.

We hope to exchange into Westin Princeville at the 8 month window for next year. If we don't then, I'll have rent my WKORV and pay to stay somewhere in Princeville for next summer. So I value your experience. Let's us know how the rest turns out.

P.S. How are you sending out the confirmation? Via e-mail. I still haven't gotten my confirmation for my August week in 2008 for Maui yet.

Denise, that is really great because with the rent money you can go where and when you want to go and demand an ocean view condo too. That's what I would do if I couldn't use our unit rather than try to make an exchange and have the agony to see what you may end up with somewhere else.

Exchanging is getting a hassle and is getting more expensive too each year. You will like Kauai! Did you buy at the Westin too and from the developer? If you did, you bought pre-construction, I assume so you can hardly go wrong. :)

Congrats! Nice to hear of a successful rental! :)

Congratulations!

Do you know what service sent the interested parties your way? I've been thinking of renting out my July 5 WKORV-N week and was planning on using TUG and Redweek too.

To answer the questions above:

I am emailing them a confirmation in their name and Starwood is mailing them a hard copy.

I am not sure where they saw my Ad, but I will ask - I am curious too.

Yes, I bought preconstruction, from the developer.

I just recently agreed to an exchange for one of my WKORV-N weeks for a week at the Marriott Waiohai, in Kauai. I wrote to someone I saw on the TUG exchange board and the other party was great to work with. The occupancy for both of us is next year so we'll see how that goes.

Starwood was able to place the exchanger's name on the reservation but they cannot send out e-mail confirmations for the new property yet. They said it would be the end of the year or early next year before they could do that. I asked for a fax and one came in several hours later. They're also supposed to be mailing out a hard copy to the address of the other party.

It appears it takes Starwood quite some time to get a new property integrated into their SVN reservation system. I don't think there's any excuse for taking so long for something as simple as an e-mail confirmation. Fortunately we've established a good communication with the other party and I think they are comfortable with the exchange. I already have my electronic Marriott confirmation.

Denise,

Great news on your rental price :whoopie: . I hope your renters get a good view at 10 months out. You'll have to report back as to where their unit was located. Congratulations!

That's great news & congratulations! :cheer:

But I was kind of hoping you wouldn't rent it and have to put it on TUG and I could scoop it at $100 per night!!!:D ;) :hysterical:

Congrats on your successful rental!

Good luck with getting Starwood to e-mail the reservation with all the correct information of your renters. We have had three rentals in the past two years and Starwood did not get any of them correct via the e-mail without three or four follow-up phone calls. They drive my wife crazy!

Denise,

I am glad you were able to rent it. That is what timesharing is all about, the experience.

Take care,

We had rented the studio-side of our WKORV Dlx OF unit out for $1750 over the Labor Day week. I just found out that the renter never made it due to unforeseen circumstances a day before they were suppose to leave - what a drag...

I guess after they didn't show up after 48 hours (if I remember the contract correctly) WKORV can rent it out.

I have rented the studio side for Spring Break 2008 for $1400. I'm starting to market the 1bdrm side now.... it will be interesting to see what I can get for it. I'm sort of coming to the conclusion that the 2bdrm lock-off units separately can be worth more than the whole..... I'll report back.

I reserved the studio-side for 4th of July next year - and will be listing it soon for rent myself - if I cannot use it for a tough SVN exchange. The rental last week was thru TUG. It was relatively pretty easy - too bad they didn't make it - I called at 12months out at 5AM (back then) - I was interested in their unit location. Guess we will have to wait until Dec to see how the first call priority works.

Denise, just want to send my congrats for your rental. Good job!

I went to your website today to look at Tahoe ideas. I got distracted looking at this rental and the comments on another of your pages about your maintenance fees there. Full disclosure and you still get your full asking price! It's all about finding the buyer who wants what you have.

I have had issues with Starwood getting our renters names on the confirmation also. I have made at least 5 phone calls and was told they would email, then was told they can't email it, then was told email will not show the other party names on it, then was told they would mail it, and here it is 2 months later and I have yet to get one simple peice of paper. What is up with this??

I asked for a fax and apparently the rep entered some sort of request that was automatically filled a few hours later.

On one of our rentals last year, they finally got the names mailed to us after four tries. But when we got to the resort, the names of the renters were still wrong. Luckily we were staying at the resort at the same week and corrected everything.

I think you guys jinxed me!

I made my Resv. on Sept. 1 and specified that I wanted the confirmation snail mailed and emailed. Nuttin...

A few days later I called again and they "found the problem with the email," and sent it again...nuttin...:wall:

And then a few days later I went through the reservation button on mystarcentral and modified my reservation and asked again for the confirmations....nuttin :crash:

Then yesterday I used the email button at mystarcentral.com and sent them a nasty note....today I got a confirmation! :cheer:

Absolutely crappy customer service! :annoyed:

Now we will see if my renter gets the paper confirmation in their name or not!

Sorry, I do hope that in the future they put half of much effort on customer service as they do on trying to get us to come to "owner updates".
