I still haven't opened the box

I bought a HP notebook, 500 mg harddrive, model, DV6-3120. I am going to attempt to set it up myself. I bought it at Office Depot, but Staples is doing tech service half price this week. I may have them transfer files for me, or may try to do myself,

Anyhow, i will probably be posting a lot of questions in the next few days.

Let the fun begin! Others may disagree, but I think it's money well spent to have the retailer's service do the data transfer and clean off all the 'trial ware' before you even get to it, and put on your choice of antivirus and antispyware. That will put your photos and documents where you can find them and keep you from forever asking yourself if you screwed up. Iirc it was under $50 here at Geeks, but of course it will be different at your shop.

As usual, my $.02 worth.

I am thinking a about it, at half price at Staples, it is probably well worth it, I just will be without for a few days.

Looking at purchasing the same computer, would like to know after you start using it how you like it.

So, how have you made 1600+ posts on TUG up till now without a computer? :D ;)

Enjoy the new machine. I have a HP desktop and haven't had any problems with it in the 4 years or so I have owned it. :)

here's the problems so far! bought a router, it is connected to the router, but I haven't been able to make it secure because i get some kind of message that it can not override the wireless in the computer.
second, I put in the cd for the printer and it says it is not compatible. Now I bought that HP printer in January and there should be no problem. It will be rather useless with no printer.
I can't find our Kodak Easy Share disk and I want that installed so i can move the pictures.

and of course I con't have all my favorites so I have to set all tht up.

getting used to the keyboard is taking some doing.

Need help!

I enrolled in Skype and tried to talk to my son. we could see each other, but I could not hear him and he could not hear me. I have the HP Pavilion dv6 entertainment notebook. do I need a separate microphone or is it built in? I have tried to run troubleshooting, but nothing improves.
also, would like to adjust the screen brightness but how do you do it?

My Toshiba has a built-in mic, but have found it far more satisfactory to use a headset with a boom mic for Skype. You may find 2 little round holes to plug the jacks into. They are marked. For brightness, there may be icons on the 'f' keys along the top of the keyboard. One might have a 'sun' with an 'up arrow' symbol. Probably next to a sun with a down arrow. Hold the 'fn' key and that 'sun up'.

To your earlier post, I've found Windows 7 simply goes online to get the driver whenever I plug it in to a peripheral. ymmv.
