I'm currently in my 5 day resind period I have 4 days to go.

I bought into the tafer group.

The cost was 28,000 and the maintenance is 800 per year.

I think I'm getting good value but I'm new to this.

I get 1550 point plus all the "extras".

Their garza blanch resort in cabo was amazing I'm actually looking forward to staying there.

Is there a better way?

I feel like I'm getting good value but I need to hear from people who know?

You can check on eBay to see what they go for. Do some research and if you still want to buy it, it will still be available to you. Remember when you go to sell it you will likely lose the entire 28k plus interest, (if you financed). I am sure the resort is wonderful but figure out how many times you can go there for 28 k while accounting for the additional 800 per year which will go up with inflation. Most developers are all smoke and mirrors. I would suggest you rescind within the allotted time . You will be happy you found this website and save yourself a lot of money.

the fact you still have doubts is the number one reason to rescind and do your research. you can always go back and rebuy (you wont, but you can) however once locked in there is no good way to cancel and get a refund!

It's a fantastic membership but you can pick them up resale. You should cancel and think it over, imo.

I'm going against the current here, but IF you want a specific resort- in Mexico- you gotta pay the tariff. Resales may exist, but they have a fee to the resort of some 5-10X the annual fees. I like Mexican resorts in general, but hate their costs to get into/out of. I would buy a U.S. based mid-to- upper end TS. like Marriott, Hyatt, even Wyndham=- ANY except Wastegate. then exchange into any number of Mexican resorts. Unless, of course, you have disposable $28,000 laying around for 1 week vacations.

I would rescind, then put those funds into a 'better' U.S. based TS and learn their system and how to exchange it.

Just my usual $0.02 worth.

@thegoat89 Glad to see that you came back last night. To flesh out what I said above. In Mexico, you don't OWN anything. What you are paying those $28,000 +$800 a year for it the 'Right to Use' THEIR property. You don't get a specific unit, or view. And those annual fees can (and will) go up every year. They will use YOUR money to build more resorts, but unless you part with more money to become members of an ever-escalating 'club', you won't be able to participate.

And say that you tire of going to the same few resort cities, or airfare gets too high for you to take the family, the value of exchanging into a RCI, or II resort elsewhere is diminished. And finally, IF (when) you want out, those onerous multiple year internal fees to do no more than change the name on a membership, make your membership virtually impossible to 'get out' of.

So enjoy your visit to the resort- they ARE nice! And prepare that rescission letter according to their rules and get it into whatever courier they specify. You can thank us later.

Welcome to TUG!

You worked hard for your money. Rescind, do your homework and then take the next step.

Personally? If I wanted to go where you are looking I think I would buy a nice resale week in the USA and use it for exchange purposes to the Tafer destinations when I wanted to go. But that's just me.

Keep in mind, you don't own anything in Mexico. It is a vacation club and you pay as you go. No payment equals no go.

If you do rescind then send it via USPS REGISTERED MAIL and retain copies of your paperwork and postal receipts.

Best of luck!

If OP is still in Mexico, they can send the rescission letter by Mexican Post (correo) by Registered Post. Not as reliable as USPS, but available in Mexico and USPS isn't.

I would like to thank everyone for the advice. I have sent an email rescinding my membership. I'll probably do a USPS letter doing the same.

Brian you can add 28k to the $$s saved.

I'll look into resale and might even go into some timeshares armed with this knowledge to see what I can squeeze out of these companies.

Below is my email to them is there anything I should add? (I've taken out my personal information for obvious reasons)

Dear Tafer Residence Club Member Services,

I like your reason. They can’t argue with that. (They might call to talk you out of your apprehensions. Don’t pick up the phone.) Do the instructions say email? I’d be more comfortable also mailing, and keep proof of the send date.
Congratulations.

If you were OK spending $28k, you could spend that amount on several top shelf Marriotts and be top of the TS food chain and exchange into many amazing resorts all over the world.

Email is not sufficient.
Send registered tracked highest level of Mexican post.

I'm with @Passepartout you'd be better off buying a "luxe" US contract and use thirdhome and II to access the inventory you want.
I'm sure you'll find the plethora of options for luxury Mexican residences and clubs worth the rescission.

Plus you'll have more variety
Million dollar Private residences, Solaz, Nobu, Ritz, etc
Garza Blanca locations are on II
