Hi. My husband and I have been talking about trying to trade into the Hyatt High Sierra some time next year. We are not Hyatt owners, we'd be using a Trapp Lodge week to exchange. We would so appreciate any answers to the following questions:

When does it have the most availability, so that we'd be more likely to get the exchange?

We don't like driving in snow and ice, what months should we avoid?

Many thanks!

The easiest times to get are going to be the 'slush time' (early spring) and perhaps late fall. If you don't want to drive in snow and ice, then you're stuck with summer months primarily, which will be tough to get, but not as much as ski season. Hopefully Denise will weigh in as she is very familiar with this area.

It has been discussed here by others that there can be snow and ice just about any month.

In 2012 there were chain controls leaving Incline Village on April 13. I have seen snow in September. I have hiked in 80 degree weather in October.

Weather conditions change. Off season conditions will fluctuate. If you go in off season you have to be prepared for anything.

Thanks for the replies, I truly appreciate it. This helps me make my decision about even trying to snag an exchange there.

We LOVE the Hyatt In Bonita, and would love to stay in just about all of the Hyatts, so I figured I'd research Incline Village first, since my husband likes to be somewhat near a casino.

Now I'm hesitant to go there, we really hate dealing with ice and snow while driving.

Don't be too hesitant. In off season it can snow one day and be sunny and warm the next. The region is great and full of activities.

The Hyatt is a beautiful place. If I didn't have school age children I would go in September. The trade off is the summer crowds are gone. Weekends will still be busy.

Your next issue is getting the trade. That could prove problematic. But if you don't put in the request you will never know. The Marriott Timber Lodge is a nice property at South Shore that you can consider as well. It is in California but only a 2/3 minute walk to Harrah's and Harvey's for casinos.

I was there last year the first week of October. I found it online without an ongoing search so you should have a good chance of getting something similar. I think it was the first week of their shoulder season.
I was at another resort at the south end the week before and it was very crowded but that weekend, it really thinned out. That week is also when the chances of snow really start adding up, but it usually doesn't stick around too long. Late Sept-early Oct is really gorgeous with the aspens turning color so don't let the possibility of some snow turn you off. You might end out staying at the resort one day while everything melts off, but most of the week will likely be sunny.
It's a very nice resort and by far the nicest on the north side of the lake and one of the nicest in the whole area. We really enjoyed our week there.
