How to utilize your points?

We plan to buy BCV and will go once every 3 years, since we have a large family we will need the 2 bedrooms. We most likely go during President week which is in February so February or March use year. Hypothetically if we need 300 points, we will need to buy a 100 points contract, so:
Year 1 - 100 points (bank to Year 2)
Year 2 - 100 points (Y1 + Y2 +Y3 = 300 points.) Vacation Year
Year 3 - 100 points (borrow by Year 2)
Year 4 - 100 points (bank to Year 5)
Year 5 - 100 points (Y4 + Y5 +Y6 = 300 points.) Vacation Year
Year 6 - 100 points (borrow by Year 5)
However BCV need 350 points for a 2 bedrooms in February, if we buy a 120 points contract, we will have 10 points unused. (haven't seen a 120 points resale yet).
Is there a better way to do this? I know you cannot bank points twice so if we are not going every other year, how can we minimize our lost?

I really hope I'm not sounding callous but, 10 points every three years is not much of a loss. I really wouldn't worry about it. I'm not trying to sound trivial but at the most, it's a loss of $50 per year. Also, as your family grows, you will find your needs will change. We started with 150 points when our kids were young. And then things started to change and at one point we got up to 900 points. (I know, I went a little nuts). Now as kids have moved away we are down to a more manageable 450. My point is, life happens. Things will change. You will probably want more points. Addonitis is a dangerous Disney thing. If a few points go to waste, don't worry about it, how much are those family memories worth? Good luck!!

Thank you JC. I know 10 points is not a great deal however as I mention I haven't seen a 120 points contract on resale. Most of them are 150 and 160. If I buy the 150 points I will have 100 points left, and as $5.62 p/p it's over $500. I know I could rent points out (will spend some times to familiar with it) but want to see if there's other option(s). I could also have a 100 points contact and rent 50 points when I need (I think rental cost $13-$15 p/p x 50 points = $450-$750).

It sounds like you have a good grasp on it. You'll be fine. One last thought, you can buy less than what you need resale and then add on a small contract direct from DVC and get the full benefits of DVC. Just a thought. Good luck!!

You can rent out any extra points for at least $12 per point. I would personally buy many more points than 100 and rent those I cannot use every year. That is exactly what we do with ours.

you can also rent in points from another owner to add to those points if you want to use them. I think disney allows you to "buy one time points" from them. I forget how much they were and how many they allow you to "buy" from them.

Buy MORE points ... if you are traveling for that Holiday week .. you could easily book 2 weekends ... Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon .... that to me is 10 nights easy... not 7 nights.

And if you cut a day or two off your vacation plans ... rent the points out.

You can buy up to 24 one time use points per year. They cost $15/point and you can buy them directly from member services at the 7 month mark.

BCV points are definitely hard to come buy (for contracts less than 150 - I recently started browsing/looking too). Good luck.

To clarify some of the earlier posts as it relates to your position...

While you can buy up to 24 'one use' points each year from DVC, since they can only be used for 7 month reservations it almost certainly won't help you get BCV during winter break. And those 'one use' points can't be borrowed or banked.

Also, unlike other timeshare systems (e.g. MVCI) the market for DVC point transfers isn't particularly liquid. This is because DVC limits members to one transfer per Member or Membership, either into or out of your account, during a given Use Year (not calendar year). So while you CAN find people who are willing to transfer all their points it's somewhere between hard and impossible to find smaller amounts available for transfer.

And as for the DVC rental market, it is quite large and active but what you are looking for - a BCV owner with points available to make the reservations in your name the day the 11 month window opens for winter break - is in very high demand. So if you have to rely on a DVC rental for part or all of your winter break reservation there can be some nervous moments.

All that said...we've been at BVC for winter break every other year since 2006 and have loved every minute. I do wish you the best in finding that 120 point contract.
