Hello! Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question. I am going to try and giveaway my timeshare in the bargain section. If I find a taker, what do I do from there? Is there a company that does this? Or do I contact my timeshare to take care of the paperwork? I see people offering to pay closing costs, but I'm just not exactly sure who does the closing.
If it helps, my timeshare is with Bluegreen (13,000 biannual points).
You can do it yourself, if you know how. But for the fastest, most accurate service, a lot of people suggest contacting TUG members LT Transfers. Very highly regarded, and they do excellent work. They'll prepare the paperwork and coordinate recording and transferring for you and your buyer, for something like $150 in most states. (Some states are a few dollars more, because of higher recording fees.) http://www.lttransfers.com
Bluegreen Resorts in my opinion are pretty easy to get someone to take over depending on location and point allotment. DaveNW made a very good point and reference above, LT Transfers is a very reliable closing company, I have been using them for years on hundreds of transfers. Mary and Isabella are a pleasure to work with! Bluegreen does have a transfer fee of $450 that has to be paid to them to complete the transfer and then you have your closing fees which are not too much.
I was looking on Bluegreen site and went through the “title transfer request” pages. It reads that they have a closing dept that will do the escrow piece. Has anyone used it and know what they charge?
If I use the other service, so I need to do that part first or pay the transfer at Bluegreen and then do the escrow piece?

I haven’t used Bluegreen, but with others who also charge a transfer fee, it is usually outside the cost to prepare the paperwork. So if (for example) Bluegreen charges $250 to do the transfer, and LT Transfers charges $150 to prepare the paperwork, your cost would be $400 in total. You’d have to ask Bluegreen what they actually charge to do the paperwork AND the transfer. If it’s cheaper, it’ll be easier to go with them, and let the paperwork stay in-house. I did a transfer with Grand Pacific, and their transfer fee included the paperwork prep. They charged the same fee if I used another company, so it was easier to let them handle it. Call Bluegreen and ask specific questions.
Question is far from stupid... You should call Bluegreen and talk to there transfer department. While you have some response here, I don't believe any of them are accurate. Bluegreen is currently charging a non refundable transfer fee of $500. the transfer is to be initiated on there website. It is my understanding that they'll only recognize the closing if it's handle through certain transfer companies. Again I would contact Bluegreen to get current accurate transfer information.
Good luck
Mike
