I would like to do a slide show presentation for my daughters graduation party. Any suggestions/recommendations on how to create a slide show? I've got quotes for about $50, but i'm trying to save some money and maybe do it myself.

TIA

If you have a PC you can load pics into Microsoft Movie Maker, add transitions between shots, add music. Once finished you could make a DVD of it and play on TV. You can also add videos too.

Microsoft Photo Story 3 is free, more reliable and easier to use than Movie Maker, but only works up to XP, not Vista or 7. Pretty basic, with transitions etc., and music, and up to 300 slides.

Try this instead

I am not too computer savvy but need to keep just slightly ahead of the high school students I teach. While doing some research on line I found Prezi, an on line presentation tool that recently won awards for innovative technology. Makes amazing presentations and there is an online tutorial that gives you the basics and lots of examples of what can be done. Not a large learning curve and you will impress a lot of folks with this.

Pro Show Gold

If you are going to be making more slide shows down the line, I would recommend checking out Proshow Gold. My wife started off with Movie Maker and it is very limiting what you can do. She also found out she really enjoys making the shows.

Proshow does have a slight learning curve but the capabilities for the price ($70) are incredible.

There is a free trial version but I think it puts a watermark on the slides.

Another vote for powerpoint -easy to do and in my case already on the PC.

It is super easy and free to make one on www.photobucket.com. Here is a sample from my DD's graduation - (click on the thumbnail)

Most of the online photo sites allow you to show your pictures as a slideshow. I have a shutterfly account and it includes slideshows.

For even nicer ones you can go to one of the services that charge a fee. I use Phanfare to share pictures with friends and family. It makes very nice slideshows. Full screen option, captions, background music, etc. They also store your images at full resolution which provides a good backup. It is a subscription service though, you have to pay their annual fee to use it.

If you are talking about a slideshow you can view without a computer it is more complicated. I picked up a copy of Roxio Creator at Costco. One of it's features is that it will make a slideshow in movie format that you can burn onto a DVD. That allows you to use any TV/DVD player combination to view the slideshow. An extra cost option is to generate Blu-Ray format for HD images. That requires a Blu-Ray DVD burner, which is something I don't have.

With any of these, can you edit in music off your iTunes library? We are trying to make a slideshow now for a family reunion but my kids swear that most programs don't allow iTunes (or probably vice versa......I'm sure the limiting problem is with iTunes!).
Thanks"
