How to get Marriott Elite Nights for Interval stays?

Hey group,

My wife and I own two MVC weeks jointly. We have been trading one of those weeks through Interval for various travels and so far have only stayed at MVC properties. The Interval account was initially setup in both my wife's and my names, but she is listed as the Primary member according to the two different Interval reps I spoke with. On the Interval My Profile page it lists me as the "Contact" and my email as the contact, but under "Owners" it does list my wife as "Primary Contact". When we book, the Interval confirmation comes to my email and in my name in the email title, but it shows both me and my wife as Guests Eligible for Check-In. I'm listed first in these emails.

So the question is how do I get Marriott Bonvoy to recognize these stays for their Elite Nights credits? If I try the "find a reservation" using her name it does not find it. If I try using my name it errors out. Is there something I can change to make this work, like should I see if they will change the contact email address and name and take me off? That complicates it a bit since I do all the work on bookings and would have to wait for her to forward emails to me (and she isn't great at checking emails).

We just finished a stay at MGV and I had them register it under my wife's Bonvoy account pre-arrival, and they acknowledged her status when we checked in. But it still doesn't show in her Bonvoy recent trips, nor does our booked Interval trade upcoming in December. Note: I have my own Bonvoy account but it rarely gets used other than for the one free night per year.

You need to do up to three things to make get your Elite Night Credits:

  1. Make your that MVC has your Bonvoy account (not your spouse's) listed as the primary. The following is a link to a thread from the weekend discussing that very matter. https://tugbbs.com/forums/threads/bonvoy-status.372931/
  2. Once you affect the II exchange. Confirm that your name is on the reservation. A guest certificate should not be necessary, but it is noteworthy that if you assign your II trade to a guest such as your brother, they are eligible for the Elite Night Credits as long they ensure that the resort has there Bonvoy # on file. Guest name must match the Bonvoy #.
  3. Lastly, make sure you charge something to your room. 1 bottle of water will cover it. Others have reported not getting the nights credit without a charge on the account. This is not a universal experience, but it has been reported several times. I have personally experienced this when not charging anything to the room. I charged a can of Pepsi to my room in Colorado this year to get me covered.

If you are looking these up on Marriott.com, make sure you are not logged into any Bonvoy account. I get the error every time I try to find a reservation when logged in. I find it is better to use the Mobile app to look up reservations and add them to your Bonvoy account.

Once you've found the trip under the appropriate person, you can tie that person's Bonvoy number to it. Don't try to cross the names and Bonvoy number. The problem with II confirmations is that even though both names appear on the confirmation, the reservation is only tied to one of the II members. Thus you can only find it under that person's name when looking up the trip on Marriott.com.

I get around this by each owner (my wife and I) having our own II web profile. We make reservations in my wife's login or my login depending on who we want the reservation to ultimately be tied to for Bonvoy purposes. So if I want the Elite Night Credits, we make the reservation using my II login. If we want my wife to get the Elite Night Credits, we make the exchange or getaway when logged in under her II username. Sometimes we will make a reservation under my wife's II login and later realize we want me to get the Elite Night Credits. In that instance we've use the free guest certificates provided with II platinum to change the name. Though apparently you can call II and have them change the primary guest name.

Are your MVC weeks associated with both your and your wife's separate Interval accounts? Maybe the only solution is to start a new Interval account for my wife and her contact info as it seems that even though Interval shows my wife as the Primary Contact, the reservations from Interval still come in my name.

We don't have this trouble when just using our MVC weeks, they automatically associate to my wife's account.

My wife and I are both on the ownership and both on the II membership. If you are in the same situation, you just need to create an additional web login for your wife. Not a new account. My wife and I have the same II membership number. Every owner can have their own login.

Yes, we are in the same situation. If I setup a separate login for my wife into our existing II account, do I have to use her email address? Or can I use my email address to make it easier on my when booking?

This is separate from your MVC accounts. It sounds like on the MVC side, your wife is setup as the primary and you login to the MVC website under her name? You can do similar on the MVC ownership account side. Each have your own MVC login username and password.

Use her email address. Keep things separate. Perhaps even use the same email she uses in her Bonvoy.

After making an II reservation or exchange, you can then go back in and send the confirmation to a different email address.

Thanks. We usually charge meals and drinks to the room, but I'll keep that in mind for the future. We usually use my wife's Bonvoy credit card for the room as well.

Thanks again. Both of our names are on everything, Deeds, MVC account, and Interval account. But I set it all up and thus it all uses my name and email as the contact; even when my wife is formally the "primary contact". I don't think she has ever logged into the MVC or II accounts. She does use the Bonvoy account regularly for work travel.

I'll work to fix this for the future Interval bookings. For the existing II booking in December I assume from this discussion the easiest solution is to use a guest certificate to transfer the booking to my wife's name?

EDIT: actually, our MVC account shows me as primary, but we have my wife's Bonvoy number associated with the MVC.

We also verify everything when we check in...name on the account and spelled correctly, correct Bonvoy number attached, then at check out make sure the folio matches everything we wanted to do.

If you are II platinum, then you can use an II Guest Certificate to change the name without having to call. When I've done it I indicate that the II member won't be traveling and just input the name of the guest I want on the reservation in the form fields. Then the next day or so I can go in and look it up on Marriott.com under that person's name. If you've already added a Bonvoy number to that December reservation, then this may or may not work.

If you aren't II platinum, then there is a fee for the guest certificate and it probably better to just update the Bonvoy number and name at checkin. It was noted by someone previously that you can call II and have them change the primary name on the II reservation, but we've never done that.
