My brother gifted a deeded week to me. MVC said it’s considered an external purchase and I am not able to convert my deeded week to Abound (point system). I am not happy that I am stuck with going to same resort or join II and exchange etc. Does anyone know the most economical way for me to enroll to Abound? MVC sales person said to buy more points. Some said to buy points from red week for 1/3 of the price. MVC said points has to be purchased from MVC to allow deeded week to convert. Does anyone know the true answer to this? Did anyone purchased points from red week and able to enroll deeded week to Abound?? TIA.

Unfortunately you have to make a deal with MVC to enroll the week.
Just buying resale points won’t enroll it.

You could consider selling the week you own if you don’t want to stay in it or exchange on II and buy resale points instead.
Those will function the same as points purchased directly from MVC at half the price.
MVC gets ROFR on the sale and people say $3-$4/ point will pass, sometimes lower passes.
You then need to pay MVC $3/ point enrollment fee on the resale points- so all in about $7/ point.

Have you explored how many points your week is worth and how many points you will need to take the trips you want?
Don’t discount exchanging on II- it can be a great value.
It takes a minute to learn but it’s very worthwhile.
Booking with points is not as easy as the sales people would have you think- you still need to plan in advance.

Read around on these boards- you’ll find lots of discussion on this topic.

Enrolling a resale week into Abound is expen$ive -- five-figure expen$ive. Why do you want to enroll your week?

Depending on your travel goals and the week you own, you may be able to make what you have work well for a fraction of the cost of "upgrading".

Enrolling your one week will likely cost you in excess of $30,000.

Do you think it's worth it? I don't! Use Interval International instead and enjoy your ownership.

.

If you share where you own and the season and where you want to travel, we may be able to give you suggestions on how to use Interval or whether adding points is worth it.

Own Las Vegas Grand Chateau 1 week 2b platinum. My brother used to get 3275 points. I travel 2-3 days nearby resort few times a year. It was so easy to book with points. MVC assured me that I would inherit same but that wasn’t the case once deed was changed to my name.

I’m surprised MVC said that because it is only parent to child that maintains enrollment.

You may want to run some numbers to see if ownership is right for you at all with the way you travel.
Good luck.

Bummer. Should have kept in brother's name and paid the MF, but that is water under the bridge. Did MVC send you an email or other writing stating this?

Yes sadly I got fouled up. numerous phone calls to different agents for instruction but nothing in writing. I spent near $500 to change deed. I have to spend same to get rid of it. OUCH.

You could give it away rather than pay MVC to take it.

I think Grand Chateau week can sell for $2k? That was the most recent price recorded in ROFR.net.

Looks like Redweek listings are all over the board a few less but many at or above that. Doesn't mean they sell at that price though. I've never paid asking at Redweek.

If you search "Grand Chateau" on TUG, you'll find recommendations to buy deeded GC week resale to exchange in Interval. You can lock-off and exchange into 2 weeks. If traveling a full week at a time and planning about a year ahead doesn't work for you, then points ownership is a better fit, but more costly.

The best use is to join II and exchange even if it was enrolled. Just learn the best practices for that type of usage and you'll get a GREAT value out of that week.
