I have mentioned in other posts over the years, my parents bought into HGVC over 25 years ago and have since passed. My sister and I were on the deeds and successfully got rid of one contract by handing it back (Bay Club) without any costs. We just do not use the points to justify the annual maintenance fees and have found HGV policies re booking very restrictive (I am DVC owner and have to say their system is much better - you don't pay each time to use points, can cancel up to 31 days and automatically get the points back without any cost, can easily merge (see below), etc.). We have tried a few places -those that are consistently ranked as the better HGV properties- but as I am sure everyone knows, it is hard to get the dates we want.

With that, I have two questions:
1) many have the 3 night minimum. I see pockets where 2 nights are available. Assume there is no way to book those 2 nights regardless of the fact that it is available?

2) If the window states it goes through Sept 6 for example, you can only book Sept 6 not several days starting on Sept 6, correct? If so, do you book day by day to try to get a week? As a side, I actually found use last month for the points for a quick trip to NYC. Got the one night and then decided to stay an extra day and looked and saw it was later available and booked it. Same unit type, etc. I reached out to HGV to merge the reservation and they said they do not do that. I spoke to W 57th and they noted it in their system so I would not have to check out and re check in but curious how the other properties are with that? Again, with DVC it is a simple chat function request to merge the reservations when the units are the same and it is done immediately.

Just trying to get any use out of the many points we now have for 2026 and most likely will turn it back into HGV (for a cost) at the end of this year. Thanks for any guidance!

During Open Season (cash booking at 30 days or less).

If it's a 'normal' HGVC location with a 3 day minimum, you could book Sept 4-6th and then add on a day at a time. Changes to a reservation are free...even for legacy owners. The NYC and DC bHC locations are different as there is no minimum stay.

And I've never been forced to move on contiguous reservations of the same unit type...with HGVC, MVC, Vistana, or DVC. And DVC can only merge reservations that are on the same membership.

Open season is 2 night min.
Vegas currently has 2 night min by phone only but most club point HGVC bookings are 3 night min
Sept 6 is Labor Day weekend '26, so super peak for most places
Plenty of openings in HGVC for not so super peak, esp in Hawaii, Vegas & Orlando, where HGVC has plenty of invetory..

Local properties usually can do that. HGVC's IT systems have their glitches/limitations unfortunately. Most properties are usually very helpful & will accommodate..

most likely will turn it back into HGV (for a cost) at the end of this year.
What do you own (deeds, number of associated HGVC points & MFs)? Many deeds have resale value (winter ski weeks at ski resorts, Vegas Platinum). Many others, may give away for free at TUG (without out-of-pocket costs to you)..
Best in your journey!

OP, look into 'walking the reservation' in HGVC stickies...
TY!

We have done this multiple times at W. 57th, and it has always worked, so I can tell you that you will not have a problem. You will have to get new keys at the transition point, but that's straightforward. It will also waive the $85 short stay fee if the combined reservation is more than 3 nights.

Cheers.

Thanks all! Very helpful to know re the 2 day min goes away at the 30 day mark.

Thanks for the reference to the free posting. There are so many of these units on there so just trying to find the quickest and easiest away to get rid of it.

I only have one DVC membership with multiple contracts so that is the only way I have done a merge so never had different memberships involved so that was my point of reference.

Open Season does have a 2 day minimum...just not a 3 day minimum. You will see those 2 day pockets disappear at many resorts at 30 days.

Except for the NYC and DC bHC locations which can be booked Open Season for 1 nights...but only by those who own at that location (and occasionally selected other NYC/DC bHC locations).

I only have one DVC membership with multiple contracts so that is the only way I have done a merge so never had different memberships involved so that was my point of reference.
I have 3 memberships as we have contracts with Feb, Aug, and Dec use years. There are many advantages to having multiple memberships...but a minor disadvantage is that DVC can't combine the ressies.

Yes there is ... one night!! ;)
I disagree. Tonight, for example, we will not be at any of those locations, so it will be shorter than one night. Tomorrow, too...

Cheers.
