How quick are points given back when cancelling?

Hello,
I am keeping a watchful eye on the Wyndham calendar. I have a week booked but it isn’t in the exact room at the resort I want and I was wondering if I see a week become available, how quickly, if I cancel my reservation, do the points come back so that I can turn around and book the desired room?

Am I playing with fire by doing this?

Right away. However, you are still playing with fire, b/c someone else can see the same unit you do, and book it between when you cancel and go back to look for it.

You'd be better off (I think) if you used the waitlist. You get a bit of time (several days, IIRC) to confirm it, and can safely cancel during the interim.

I have a waitlist setup but I’m under the 60 day window now and thought I had read that the waitlist no longer applies?

The points are returned to your account immediately, the cancelled reservation showing back up in the system for availability is not immediate from my experience it’s at least 24-48 hrs if it comes back at all.

When you cancel a reservation sometimes you have to log out and log back in to see your updated point balance.

If you have enough points, book the new reservation then cancel the original reservation. Points will be added back immediately as long as you are out at least 14 days.

With the new upgrade to system you may never see them again.
