There has been an interesting discussion on a theory of how the addition of new, higher-point resorts would affect owner's perceived value of their HGVC ownership. We cannot predict the future, but we can attempt to measure owner's experiences to date with this poll. If you are an experienced owner, please consider taking this poll.

I put "no change," but could see a small increase of options.

Cheers.

More resorts...better club. And in our COVID ridden times when travel planning is difficult, the presence of high point resorts where I want to go is a benefit - if I can't get into Lagoon there is a reasonable chance I'll find availability at GI or GW.

I like the more resorts. That gives me more places to go. Sure, some of the point requirements have increased at the new resorts but they haven’t changed that much for a non-view or regular room. For example at Ocean Oak the standard 2-Bd room is still 7000 points. I also don’t think that someone purchasing a large point room at a new resort will have any affect on my bookings (I think the same logic would apply that in general bHC owners aren’t going to use their expensive points for HGVC bookings). In fact, I could much more easily book their room via purchasing another cheap resale if I so desired.

@llmiii raises an interesting point. Even though we often complain about having too many HGVC resorts in the same location, for this aspect it is good. If you cannot get in one resort, there is more inventory to choose from particularly in HHV, NYC, Vegas, Orlando, Myrtle Beach (?), and BI. Your vacation is not trashed because of limited inventory at your desired location.

I would be upset if they walled off the new resorts and we could not use them at all. To me that would be a decrease in value.

20 yr owner, currently have a high point contract after a resale trade up. Love having all the older resorts to book at lower point levels.

I think the bHC properties have slightly increased the value of my HGVC account. I feel they have done more to increase the value of my RCI Points account. Go look at what I just posted on the sightings forum. I made the same trade I just posted, and there is at least one more left. bHC the District for the 2021 Presidential Innaugural. I did a week in a 1BR partial at 33k RCI points. The Embassy Suites (same building) has a lesser room going at $686 per night for the week on Hilton.com. I doubt I use it since I live here, but that will be one heck of a gift to lure a friend to town that week (not sure if the friend will be a Democrat or a Republican at this point.) Or COVID-19 could play havoc.

The changes HGVC has made has not changed my value, but it hasn’t enhanced it either.
Because of the way HGVC has done things, we’ve expanded our Marriott ownership rather than HGVC. we own one 2 bedroom unit with HGVC. We own two 3 bedroom units and one 2 bedroom unit plus trust points with Marriott. HGVC has been used primarily for trips to Vegas with a couple of trips to Oahu and one trip to the Big Island thrown in. Other than our Vegas trips, the only location that’s attractive to us with HGVC would be the Bay Club premium units on the Big Island, but Marriott now has an attractive resort offering with what we consider a better location, so it’s possible we may never use HGVC for the Big Island again.

i’m new to hgvc, is it feasible to use hgvc points to get into marriott units either on the BI or on Maui? we primarily go to Oahu.

Marriott is in a different system and trades through II - not RCI. So the short answer is no.
