How easy is it to Rent your HGVC?

I"m in the market to purchase a HGVC property. My questions with regards to renting.

How easy is the process?

Can I make a reservation with HGVC and later change the name? (ex, week in Hawaii booked under my name, then later changed) What about RCI week?

Are there any restrictions?

Thanks

Matt

You can change the name later and there may be a charge for that. I wouldn't buy HGVC with the intent to rent it out. There are far too many cheap rentals out there already.

With HGVC, you can only rent exactly what you own. If you own Las Vegas, you cannot rent out a reservation for Orlando, etc.

With RCI, you can pay a fee for a guest certificate, but you cannot rent out the week.

Everything is easy provided A) you can find a renter B) who will pay for your price, and C) the days/unit size/location they want is available.

So renting is easy as ABC. But you need all of them to pull it off.

So in theory, I could reserve a week, and let a friend use it and pay the guest cert fee? If he were to give me money, that would be up to him...

Yes, that is correct.

To clarify:
With HGVC, there are essentially 3 types of reservations...
-- Home Week: 1 week where you own, in the same size + season of your unit..
-- Club: 3N or more at any resort in any unit in "the club" or its affiliates.
-- Open Season: Last-Minute Cash Only stays of 2N or more.

The rules say you are only "allowed" to rent out a Home Week reservation.
Club reservations are 'sposed to be used only by the member or family+friends.
Open Season is restricted to the member and his party.

For Home Week + Club stays you can obtain a Guest Certificate.
For Club stays, you put the name of the renter on the certificate.
For Club stays, you put the name of your new-BFF on the certificate.

Each type of reservation has a distinct booking window...
Home Week = 12 - 9 months out.
Club = 9 months to 1 day out.
Open Season = 30 days to 1 day out.

Clear as mud?

I don't understand posting that it's OK for everyone to disregard the HGVC rule prohibiting renting out Club reservations? Tuggers tell people all the time they can't rent II and RCI exchanges - why are developer rules different?

Explaining to folks it's done is not saying that's okay.
Rentals that violate the rules can have a variety of adverse consequences, if caught.
But realistically, some do so and get away with it.
Maybe it's karma. "The question is: "Do you feel lucky?"

My plan would be to have family and friends use it. Just wanted to be clear on everything

Thanks Again.
