So I'm familar with HGVC where you can borrow points from next year if you want to. It looks like maybe you can do the same with Wyndham (but may be more limited from my basic reading so far)? If I can't borrow points from "next year" I think I'll want to try and get more points (I want to get a 2BR mostly wherever), but if I can borrow from next year I can get slightly less points and when I want to go to a "more expensive" resort jigger from the future year.

When making reservations within the ERP window (the express window within 90 days of today), you can borrow points from a future use year to complete the reservation, provided that future use year has the points available of of course. This means the farthest out you can book that reservation is 90 days from today - any farther out than that and you won't be able to borrow from future use year buckets. The only exception that comes to mind is if you don't have enough points to cover the last day of the reservation in scope, you can borrow only that amount of points to complete the reservation from a future use year, outside of the ERP window.

During SRP you can only borrow to make up the points needed for the last day of the reservation. In ERP you can borrow any amount of points.

Here's what we're talking about on page 317 of the member's directory for direct reference:

The online directory is available here: https://media.wyndhamvo.com/2023-2024-cw-directory/index.html

The above screenshot also references page 321, here's the screenshot of that page with emphasis for direct reference:

Is the option to borrow supposed to show up on the website during the booking process?

The reason I'm asking is because I was 7k points short for a booking in SRP, and the only option the website gave me was to rent points at $12/1k points. I ended up just dropping a day to get it booked, but I was curious why I wasn't able to borrow the points.

The document that Hitchhiker posted screenshots from only seems to mention borrowing points during ERP, but I too thought there used to be verbiage like Sandy mentioned regarding SRP.

I think it is no longer possible to borrow to complete the last night's stay in Standard---at least, I've seen the same behavior you have.

That is correct, the directory only mentions renting enough points to cover the last night of the stay.

And this has always been the published policy - borrowing any amount has always only been officially possible in the Express window. Renting can be to complete the last night in Standard, or up to the amount of points owned in Express. (Note that prior to 2017, many owners used the credit pool as a type of borrowing and probably rarely or never had to worry about using the true "borrowing" function.)

However, there was a brief period of a few months in summer-fall 2021 where Wyndham made an unpublished change to borrowing and the rules worked exactly like renting. Unfortunately, they changed it back sometime that fall. I wish they would simply permanently change borrowing to match renting.

I hadn't realized it change either. I borrow or rent so seldomly.
