How does open season work?

Newbie. How does open season work? I assume you don’t need 3 days minimum? Any other things I should know? Is pricing variable resorts/seasons?

You only need 2 nights minimum for open season, and you can only book up to 30 days out. The rates are specific to the resort and season and are published on the HGVC website in the point chart for the resort.

This a link to points chart/open season rental rates for owners. You can look up each resort and see the rates. They do change from resort to resort and from season to season.

Have never done what you are wanting to do. But the T&C says that if you cancel you will not be able to book open season for the same dates.

live changed a reservation within 30 days and then booked Open Season and used the points for something else. I’m not sure if this is possible under the new rules.

That isn’t allowed per the rules.

It has to be a different resort.

I have done the same thing a few years ago on the Island of Hawaii where there usually some availabilty during Open Season. However, the new rules do not let you change a reservation within 60 DAYS. Therefore, you can no longer do that.

Yes. Anything changed within 60 days is considered a cancellation. Protection saves your points.

At 60 Days or less, you can no longer change your reservation. You can only cancel and forfeit your reservation fee (if you paid).

They‘re waiving the Cancellation Policy that kicks in 30 days before checkin (not the changeable reservation policy). Think of it as free Point Protection through April 30.

Point Protection allows Members to cancel a reservation using ClubPoints within thirty-one (31) days of scheduled arrival with no loss of ClubPoints.

Here’s what the website states

Cancellation and Refund Policy​

We understand that our Club Members may feel uncertainty about booking future travel during this time. To allow for travel flexibility and peace of mind, we are waiving our reservation cancellation policy through April 2021 so you can cancel any time prior to check-in. Members will receive a full refund of Points and Open Season fees for any reservation cancellations made through April 30, 2021​

Yes, the new changeable reservation rule doesn’t impact those who get free reservations (since there’s no reservation fee to forfeit upon cancellation).

Is it permitted to book two rooms during open season if I (owner) am going to be staying and checking in? My brother has three kids and I'm wondering if we could use open season to travel together (but we DEFINITELY need to get them their own room ).

If you, as the owner, are there to check in, you can book as many Open Season reservations / rooms as you want. Not a problem.

I found that Open Season was great alternative a few years back at Hilton Hawaiian Village but the prices have gone up so much, it's not as advantageous anymore, in my opinion.
