A few weeks ago, I bought four $25 Restaurant.com certificates that are 'non-specific' or 'generic'; with the intent to use them for myself later.

I'm not sure how I go about using these---as they are not yet linked to any specific restaurant(s).

I fully understand how to use the restaurant-specific offers----I will be using another one in a couple of weeks.

But how to I use the 'generic' $25 certificates?

Jot down the number of the generic GC (or copy). Then select a restaurant where you want to use it. When you check out just put (paste) the GC number in the box provided and print your restaurant-specific coupon. Nothin' to it. You DO have to remember which GCs you've used and which ones are available for use or you can accidently print the same GC # again.

So the generic GC number just gets entered in the "Enter Discount Code" box where one would also enter the 70%, 80% discount codes?

Nope. After you select a restaurant where you want to use a GC, at the top of the shaded area you'll see a box, 'Redeem your gift'. click there and enter your GC # in the box. You can click 'my account' and sign on w/your email/password and click on 'GC's 2009 and later' to see a list of GCs you've bought and whether you've used them. It's up to you to mark which ones you've redeemed.

Bon Appetite!

I guess the next question is how to buy the "generic" certificates. Do I just go to the Give a Gift option?

Yes. Then enter the (current) discount code ENTREE at checkout. That gives you $25 GCs for $2. Then you can either register them for specific restaurants and give them or just give the generic GCs so the recipient can choose their own retaurant.

In answer to your question about using 2 certs at the same restaurant by 2 parties the same month, go for it. You can't, however be just one party using 2 certs simultaneosly.

Thanks for the response. The reason I ask is that the T&C on the certficate seem pretty specific

Limit one (1) redemption per party, per month, per restaurant.

I know if I give one as a give we are not technically one party using two certificates in a month. I just wasn't sure if the certificates were tied together somehow in the system. If I used on and then the person I gave one to used one later in the month, I wouldn't want there to be a problem with them redeeming theirs. Or vice-versa.

I do have another question. If you can just buy the generic certificates at the discounted prices (60,70, 80% etc) and then convert them, why would anyone ever pay full price for these?

90 % off

A couple times a year you can buy at 90% off so a $25 cert costs a buck. You then usually need to spend an additional $10 plus tax and tip of another $10 and your meal costs about $20.My wife and I do not eat much so we split a dinner salad, split an entree and split dessert and maybe a non- alcoholic beverage.$20 fro a meal usually running $45 is very inexpensive.

For the same reason people buy timeshares directly from the developer. They don't know better yet.

That is what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. I also see that some $25 certs actually cost $12.50 instead of $10. I am thinking that you could also buy a generic $25 certificate for $10 and then exchange it in for a $25 certificate at a restaurant where the $25 certificate actually costs $12.50? Obviously the prices I mention are non-discounted, but you get the idea.

I use rest.com all of the time and even stock up when they have a really good sale. I've never paid over $4 for a $25 GC but I've never heard of a Generic GC:confused: ?

I've looked on their website and can't find anything about it. Can someone tell me how to buy these because it would be AWESOME to buy a generic GC and just add the restaurant later because I don't always know where we are going to eat.

Any help with this is appreciated; thanks!
