I am going to need a night in Boston, and I've never used one of these free nights before.

Dumb it down for me!

On Marriott.com click on the "Find & Reserve" option at the top left, enter your dates and check the "Use Points / Awards" box and click "Find Hotels". When you find what you want and go through the booking process, there is an option to add the certificate.

You may want to call to make a reservation. On the hotel side real people answer the phones 24 x 7. They are always happy to help and no hold time either. Tell them you want to use your free night.

Another dumb question. What’s the free night?

Pretty sure it is a Free night certificate issued by the Bonvoy credit cards depending on which card you have.

Traditionally they are for 35,000 pts. You can add 15,000 pts to have more options ,if you have points in your account. There are charts showing the value of each resort.

No more charts. All dynamic pricing.

Oh that's right. So calling is the best bet. This year we had a private concierge, due to covid helping our status. She was amazing. We will most likely, never again have that benefit, but it has been a treat!

Ah ok. I thought maybe there was something missing. I have the AMEX card so will use the free night end of year. I believe this card is upto 50k points for the free night.

For the 50K cert, you can add on 15K for a max 65K pts/ night room.

The regular Bonvoy AmEx gives you a free night certificate for up to 35,000 points. You can add up to an additional 15,000 points from your account if you want to stay at a more expensive property. The Bonvoy Brilliant AmEx gives you a certificate worth up to 50,000 points.

If you make a reservation online, you'll know high away what you are getting and can add points if you need to reserve a room worth more than the certificate.

I checked. I have the Brilliant and it has upto 50k but my renewal isn’t til next June so gotta wait

I can't remember if I got a free night for signing up to the card. I've had it for a while. I find the free night plus the $300 credit for restaurant use covers the fee for the card. I get better than $150 value for a hotel night.

My certificates seem to keep disappearing. In March before the change to dynamic pricing I had made two room reservations using points for December (15,000 each room) for two nights.

Last week I got an email stating my reservation had been updated and I’m now missing two 40,000 certs which were applied to one of the rooms. So I have effectively used 80,000 points for a 30,000 point reservation.

Now I have to try and figure this out and see if they will reverse and give me my original rate.
