There is another thread floating around about airfare to Hawaii being insanely priced this time of the year.

I am extending a business trip into the weekend to stay in Vegas on my dime for the weekend with the Mrs. It's mid October and many of the Marriott's are sold out. The prices for 3 nights / night are about north of $300 / night with many going over $400 to $500 per night. Grand Chateau is not available. Nor are any good Getaways on II. I am continuing to look around at other options.

I am stuck at this point with extending 3 nights at the Hotel.

This is what I have so far.

Thursday $189
Friday $399
Saturday $439

Plus $37 resort fee per night + Tax = 1265 all in for 3 nights.
I have a hunch why this weekend is so high.

What do you all think is jacking this up for this particular weekend. Want to see if you came to the same conclusion?

The Raiders are playing Houston at home on Oct. 23. I imagine a lot of Texans fans will be coming into town for that game and the entire weekend.

Best regards.

Join one of the casino rewards programs and get comp rooms, I never pay for rooms in Vegas. Well, not at the checking desk anyway, I pay at the slot machines. :). Caesars is one of the most generous programs.

Wow, at those rates I could rent out my home week in Vegas and tell people to use what they days they want out of the week and notify the front desk so they don't lose the reservation.

I seem to recall that I ran into a similar problem last year in October or November for a music event weekend. Wil have to track the best events. Any suggestions?

A friend of ours is going to Las Vegas in October to see a college football game between Notre Dame and...I think Brigham Young? She made her hotel reservation months ago, but she's meeting up w family and they made their reservations much later and they're paying an absolute fortune.

Have you checked Redweek or TUG rentals? I know the dates are rapidly approaching but you may be able to rent a week for the price of 3 nights.

If it is a weekend where the Raiders play at home, that would also be a big contributing factor. Add in a big convention or two, UNLV football home game, etc. and it is simple supply and demand.

Well, you'll have a lot of exploring to do to get the big sights out of the way before you drill down to the more obscure ones. Have fun, stay off the tables, on the other hand 'Beginner's Luck' is a thing.

I lived there for a time. My Great Grandfather was (along with a dozen men) a founder of the town. Lots to see and do. Check out Fremont St., Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon. The Conservatory at Bellagio. You'll develop your own favorites.

CES in January is also a big show. And let's not forget the Concrete Convention.

All less price conscious since rooms are paid by businesses.

Hoover Dam is on my list. If I were allowed I would like to tour the Nevada Test site.

Hoover Dam is on my list. If I were allowed I would like to tour the Nevada Test site.

If I knew in advance, I could possibly arrange the Test site. But without a lot of notice, all I can do is recommend the Atomic Testing Museum. It's on Flamingo, within walking distance of my favorite Thai restaurant. It's definitely worth a visit -- it's inexpensive and it's one of those "at your own pace" places where you can spend an hour or half the day.

Hoover Dam is going to take up the bulk of one of your days. My wife absolutely loves it. I'm fairly "meh" about it.

If you need restaurant recommendations, just let me know what you want and what you want to pay for it. I know basically every chef in town. And they all know me. There are inexpensive joints pumping out amazing food in every kind of cuisine. And there is the finest of fine dining. And for the most part, restaurants there are worth the price of admission. (Glaring exceptions are "every Chain restaurant," "every food court restaurant," "all but a handful of buffets," and "anything by Guy Fieri.")

But I've never had a bad steak at a LV steakhouse, or bad Mexican anywhere in East Las Vegas, or bad Chinese anywhere on Spring Mountain. And Rao's is a place you simply can't go to in New York, but you can get a table tomorrow in LV.
