Hotel In Nashville

We just need a nice hotel for three nights the last part of April. We have never been there and so would appreciate any suggestions. We would like to be downtown - my friend's daughter is running in a marathon there. Thanks!

The Hilton Garden Inn at the airport was fairly nice and is about 6 miles from downtown.
 
Downtown hotels

In downtown Nashville, there are several hotels. Courtyard by Marriott (615-256-0900), Comfort Inn Downtown (615-255-9977) Hilton Nashville Downtown (615-620-1000), Union Station, a historic hotel (615-726-1001), Hampton Inn and Suites (615-777-0001), The Hermitage Hotel (615-244-3121). There are others, these are just a few. Union Station is the old train station, but a little further out of the downtown area than the others. I am sure it is very expensive. The Hermitage is a very old hotel, completely redone years ago into a more modern hotel and would be a great place to stay. However, also very expensive I am sure. Those listed, with the exception of Union Station, are within a four block (plus/minus) of Second Avenue downtown, where there are bars, restaurants, etc. I took all the phone numbers from the phone directory, so if things have changed since this directory, I apologize for the misinformation. Hope this helps.

It's a very nice hotel. Rooms can be expensive but, we were in one of their less expensive rooms, which wasn't that much more than staying at the Hampton Inn. While it's not downtown we didn't find it an issue getting to downtown from this hotel. There are plenty of restaurants onsite and, if you'd rather eat a little less expensive, there's a nice indoor mall right next door and several restaurant choices within a mile of the hotel.

I've stayed at the Hilton Nashville Downtown. Great location. Right next to the Country Music Hall of Fame and a half block from a lot of great bars with great music (aka the "Entertainment District").
 
Opryland Hotel

The Gaylord Opryland Hotel is really a great place to stay. It does have restaurants on the property and lots of restaurants nearby, also shopping. However, it isn't downtown, probably about a 20 minute drive, more during rush hour. It is very large, very elaborate and very interesting to tour.
 
If you want to be downtown, you can't beat the Hilton.
 
We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland last year for a convention. It really is an excellent resort with lots of activities. However, it is expensive.
