Home resort and maintenance fees

Hi, I am trying to understand the relevance of a home resort. I don't have a specific go-to place and would essentially like to use the points to book at different resorts each year. So, how does one choose a home resort. I see older resorts (SeaWorld vs Park Soleil) are cheaper for the same points and also have lower MF. So why pay more? (Side note: I bought a $23k HGV timeshare at SW Orlando last month, had buyer's remorse, and found out about rescission option here and at Redweek, and got that done. Downpayment has been refunded, and I am still waiting for some official rescission letter. Something comes, right?) I'm looking into renting and possibly buying resale, and want to understand this better before I do anything.

You might want to consider regional issues. I understand insurance is going up in Florida so those annual fees might be going up faster than say Las Vegas that has no hurricane season.

Most people here like to own Vegas for consistent low fees when considering buying to trade elsewhere.

A home resort is relevant in two ways.
1. If you want to go to a particular resort usually during a particular season, you may want to buy there to give you a better guarantee that you will get what you want.
2. If number 1 above does not apply, then a home resort is only relevant to the extent that it can let you trade into the places you want to go to at the lowest cost.
If seems #2 will apply more to you based on your statement. In that case, you first have to decide which system gives you the best advantage based on your budget and travel style/location, then see which location will maximize your MF usage.
As post #2 mentioned, there are regional blocks, so watch out for that.

Many timeshares in Mexico don’t have annual maintenance fees, are 25 year Right To Use format and come with RCI and or other exchange company options.

I have a Points RCI Mexican membership and a Weeks one. 200,000 annual points deposit for free into RCI annually.

The other is 5 weeks (x2) deposited into RCI for between 100 & 140 TPU’s and while it’s supposed to be $199 per week deposited I’ve never paid that amount. Usually only about 4-500 instead of $1000.

I use my resort membership at the 4 all-inclusive resorts the hotel has getting deep discounts and fixed rates.

All depends on what you want to use or for.
