Holland America Cruise with HGVC:

We are counting down the days for a 10 day Caribbean cuise the Holland America. My wife wanted me to do something special for her mother's 75th birthday, so we are taking her on a cruise to St. Maarten, Barbados, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, and Nassau. I understand that cruising does not get the most dollar for the points, however, we have paid for the points and they do help defray the cost. This will be our third HGVC cruise. We are hoping to get the TUG Banner in the mail soon so we can take pictures of it at various cruise stops. So, if there are any other TUGGERS out there going on the Noordam this coming Saturday, April 24, 2010, we would be very happy to meet you.

We will fly into Ft. Lauderdale and spend the night before the cruise at the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Marina. We were advised that it is right across the street from the cruise port. The reason we are flying in a day in advance is that we are concerned about flight delays and the possibility of missing our cruise. We know several people that have had that happen to them.

Yeah, darn close. Only the Broward County Convention Center is in the way.

A little ways down the street in a pleasant little shopping center is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Florida... "Carlos & Pepe's Cantina‎" (1302 SE 17th Street). There may be more authentic places, but I remember it for their icy margaritas, crisp-hot chips+salsa, heaping portions, and a cool-dark ambience.

We just returned from the cruise. I took my mother-in-law and sister-in-law as well to celebrate my mother-in-law's 75th birthday. Karen and I had a great time. This is a photo of us on the Holland America Noordam in Fort Lauderdale just before we set sail.
