Ok, me again. Marriott just confuses me more when I call in, so hopefully someone on here can help.
My dad just found out he has cancer and we had to cancel his trip to Ko Olina in a few weeks. I am getting ready to officially cancel and I saw that 640 points have a 2024 use year and 1705 points have a 2025 use year. We are hoping to use the points to rent him a room ( 60 days out from check in, of course) at NCV in January 2025. When I spoke to Marriott they seems to think that because it isn't a high season at NCV that that should not be an issue.
My question is - with the points being from different use years... how can I use them all to book something in January 2025 because I know I cannot bank/borrow points from a holding account.
What is the best way to go about this ( before I actually cancel his Ko Olina room). Thank you! Sorry I have a million questions, just trying to help my dad the best I can.

Assuming its the calendar use year- the 2024 points would have to be used by 12/31/24.

The 2025 points could be used in January 2025 for a reservation.

Thank you. Does this also mean that I cannot book with the 2025 points until the beginning of January? Or can I book with them 60 days in advance - which would be late November 2024?

The 640 points would have to be used in 2024. It's a lousy use of the points, but if nothing else you can use it for annual travel insurance through Marriott and for credits at some resorts (don't know if they have resort credits at NCV, but hopefully someone else will chime in). Or maybe a short vacation at a place close by between rounds of chemo for a change of scenery. Or you can make a reservation for a short stay and rent that. Just some thoughts not to lose the points.
Take care of your Dad and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Just an FYI - if your dad has the Travel Insurance for both 2024 and 2025, you would not cancel the reservation, rather, if your father's condition meets the definitions in the insurance policy, then he would be entitled to a reimbursement of the maintenance fees associated with those points. If he does carry the travel insurance, then you would not cancel the reservation, just make a claim for reimbursement.

Best wishes to you and your dad.

I believe you can use your 2024 expiring points in Jan 2025 if you start the reservation in 2024. For example 12/31/24-1/6/25. I was able to do that a few years ago in Hilton Head with all my COVID era points.

Sending positive thoughts your way for you and your Dad!

Correct. It’s the check in date that governs.
